All,

I did a minitruck disk brake swap, and I am having the usual trouble finding the perfect wheel. I have settled on one that requires a 1/4" spacer.

With the spacer on, my nice new wheel studs are too short! I only get about 4 threads engaging with the lug nut.

Anyone had this problem? Is there a part number for a slightly longer stud?

I ran the same setup for years on my minis, but I never had this problem. I am wondering if the manufacturer made them a little shorter than the Toyota ones.

FWIW, they are Dorman studs.

(gratuitous picture because cleaning it all up was a lot of work....)

Don't know what hubs you used - but if you have FJ40 wheel studs in them, they're too short. Just get a box of Dorman wheel studs for a mid 80's mini-truck and they should work fine with the 1/4" spacers. That's what I've done (front and rear). Do a search - the PN is listed in several threads! I've done that to get it when I've needed spares, etc.......

Ok,

Here is the story!

I originally ordered the Dorman # for the 85 4runner. The parts were not really correct as compared to the old studs that I removed from the rotors/hubs. The shaft was not long enough to go engage the hub - only the rotors.

I went in to Auto Zone and had them find me the right ones. I am not sure that they are Dorman, nor am I sure how he came across them, but they were for an '85 4runner.

I found a thread where Dorman part #610-265 was listed as being a little longer. I looked them up on rockauto.com and they are 4mm longer than the ones I have sitting here that were SUPPOSED to be for a minitruck. They also have a longer shaft than the original Dorman ones I got - so they should work.

I have ordered a set and will find out!

Too bad I have to tear apart my pretty hub assembly again but such is life!

Thanks,
CAZ

If you need the spacer to clear the caliper......
Well, I just touched the caliper with a grinder and took off a small amount where it rubbed (it really isn't much).
If you need the spacer to clear the backspace of your rim.....
Good luck, I do not think there is a suitable stud in metric for what you want to do.

I would get some FJ60 studs which are a bit longer than the FJ40 ones but otherwise identical.

That does not look like a mini-conversion to me. The mini conversion uses a non-vented rotor, and that one looks vented. Maybe the rotor is different and that's why things are so short?

It looks like a 60 series rotor with the V6 IFS 4 runner caliper. I did this on my 40. works sweet, but there was interference between the caliper and rim. See how much the caliper sticks past the mounting face of the rim?

I put the wheel on the studs, spun the wheel to see where it scratched the paint on the caliper and ground that down just a little bit. Mine is really close, but after having it that way for years there have been no problems or interference.

It is a mini swap with vented rotor. I did have to grid the calipers a little WITH the 1/4" spacer. My original wheels work, but the ones I have now have the lip on the "D".

I don't get it as I ran this IDENTICAL setup on my minis for years - with the 1/4" spacer. I can't figure out why the studs are not long enough.

For the record -

Mini knuckles
Vented 40 rotors
V6 Minitruck calipers

The Rear of the 60 series is the stud that I already have. By looking at the front 60 series stud, I can't imagine there is any way they would work.

Mini knuckles
Vented 40 rotors
V6 Minitruck calipers

Exactly where mine rubbed, but I don't run a spacer.
My setup is simular, but with FJ60 rotors (same) and '86 and up IFS calipers (should be same).
