4'' backspacing wheels

I think it a 33.4'' size and a 285/75/16 is 32.8'' but not sure

I think this would be a great tire size choice for either a lifted or non-lifted 100! The downside is there is not many tire choices in this size.

The performance benefits in virtually all conditions (OK...wider is better for cornering on road and pure rock crawling...) of my current 285/35" compared to my former 315/35" is astounding. I wish they had 275/35"...I'd jump all over that!

I know this is an old post however I wanted to know how many others are considering 255/85 r 16s?

For comparison

285/75 r 16s - 32.83 x 11.22

255/85 r 16s - 33.04 x 10.07

I am thinking of switching which will drive me to remove my flares and have the body damage fixed.

The flares are covering up some past incidents with the boss piloting the 100.

I know this is a pic thread, but now I gotta know:

So will 255/85R16s fit a stock 100?

If they do, I'm in...

I've been bugging EVERY mfg to make a 275/85r16 for a long time. No one cares about function, they only care about being the biggest, fattest, widest and outlandish street tire on the block.

``Oh we've never heard of that size, that wouldn't be too popular.'' How the !@#$ would they know? Called Toyota long time ago complaining about no manual transmissions, ``Sir our records show that nearly all our LandCruiser sales are automatics.'' No $%^& shirlock when it is all you offer. Their statistics are meaningless.

Are they noisier than a BFG AT at speed?..........

Haha, that's hilarious on Toyota, and yet disturbing at the same time...

Off subject but so is all the crazy defect issues with Taco's. And a Taco's 30K spark plug change interval??!! WTF...maybe Toyota went back to points and a distributor. Or maybe they have lost their minds ala the previous post .

Rant over :D

Why is that?

Simply because it would just be exhausting to do the close to 10,000 miles we did on-road.

The 285 BFG ATs are just a far better behaving highway tire. And they're a pretty damn good offroad tire as well.

The 255s are the better offroad tire IMO, but what your highway<-> offroad driving distribution is -- and what the offroad conditions you commonly encounter are -- will determine which is the better size for you.

255's on my 80 at highway speed they tend to drift requiring both hands on the wheel were as the 285's on the 100 behave alot better.. one hand steering...I'm running remington mud brute on the 80 some road noise but I like them...

So are you saying the 285's are a better on highway tire because they are All Terrains as opposed to Mud Terrains - or because they are a wider tire at 285?

Just to clarify - in your pics the KM2's are 255/85/16's?

OK thanks for clarifying for me. I have 255/75/17 MT's on my 4Runner and have noticed many of the same things you have. For me, I really noticed the difference of the skinny tires on smooth graded dirt roads where you have a long sweeper turn taken at 25mph to 25mph. I've found the 255's feel far more unstable in this type of turn - the whole vehicle feels as if it wants to break loose and almost slide to the outside.

I love anecdote and I take 'em seriously. I get confused though also because was not the 80 and 100 designed with a 7.50r16 tire in mind? Skinny one that I would think the Toyota Engineers would have designed around.

Designed for is not equal to marketed for. Toyota ran 235/85s on the '08 200-Series for the Paris to Dakar.

It's probable not many soccer-moms were running those last weekend.

LCs are not looked upon as (or equipped as) luxo sport utility vehicles in many of Toyota's markets.

In the US market it seems there's really no such thing as an option on a LC. In some markets everything is an option. From automatic trannys to AC, to power windows/locks, leather, sunroof etc. right down the line to skinny tires.
