After changing the rims and tires last Friday, and doing a 4hr install of front suspension on Monday, I deserved a day of wheelin on the trails close to home. Me and two buddies loaded up the kids, and decided to head to the McLean Creek trails just 40 minutes from home.
Here is a pic of the rig at the top of the trail "Top of the World". This is about 8530 ft above sea level.
knorrena, of the 80 series threads, also decided to come for a boot...glad he did. This was his first time doing any sort of major wheelin with his supercharged LX450 (I do love his rig!). All I can say is Dave and I were extremely impressed with some of the lines he took that we went around.
Here is a pic of his rig coming up one of the hills.
And the smile on his face after the climb.
Dave isn't an LC guy, but a Toyota guy none-the-less. He has been extremely helpful in my installs and mods. Here is his sweet 4Runner doing what it does best.
We ended up crashing some sort of Jeep Jamboree, but they were kind enough to include us three Toys.
This was the view ahead.
And the view behind.
Finally we made it to the Top of the World.
The altimeter in Dave's 4Runner read 2600m or about 8500ft at this point. My son just loved the view.
After a quick lunch, it was time to head down and out. That presented a few challenges of it's own. I ended up bottoming out on the frame in one section and suffering some damage to my running board.
To be honest, before I negotiated it, I didn't think the LC200 could make it, but with the little damage I was impressed. I thought it was going to be a lot worse. Here is a pic of the section.
That's Knorrena coming down right after me. He had no problems clearing it, because once I thudded, some of the Jeep guys came running to spot. I learned my lesson, and will ask for spotting next time.
All in all it was a great day. The suspension install helped out, and improved the ride quite a bit. There is still some tweaking that needs to be done with the remote resevoirs and adjustment on the lift, but other than that, it held up well.
Thanks to Dave and Knorrena, I had a great day!
P.S.
I keep on getting more impressed with this rig. I am truely surprised at what it can navigate. For some of you who still think that it is overpriced and that a Land Rover is better for the money with all its soft leather and real wood (you know who you are), I'll tell you...we have taken my wife's Land Rover out on this trail, and it doesn't even compare. The LC wins any day.
