M416 FAQ & Parts Cross Reference
I found this page while searching for M100 parts cross reference. Apparently the original site is defunct. It was recreated from google cache and reposted on another site. I'm reposting it here in case the second site goes away. The below is verbatim from the second site. I've made no alterations to the text. I do not know at this time if any of these parts will work on the M100 or earlier trailers.

Frequently Asked Questions about M416 Trailer parts V1.5 Revised 30 May 2001 *Note to all lawyers and lawsuit-happy people: I checked this information as of 30 May 2001 and it worked for me. It may not work for you. If your wheel flies off at 70 mph and kills Aunt Tillie, it's your problem and I accept no responsibility. Use this information at your own risk. Email any corrections and additions (especially for BT3, MBT, and M100 trailers) to me at bshehan@hotmail.com I use the term M416 for the M416, the M716, the M762, and M569 bare chassis trailer. All of these were built on the M569. The A1 variants had surge brakes and the brake components are NOT covered here. The background was deliberately chosen....these things will nickel and dime you to death...... I. Common Part Numbers for Service Parts Wheel Bearings (4 per trailer): Federal Mogul Set A-35, which consists of: Bearing: LM501349 Race: LM501310 Grease Seals (2 per trailer): Federal-Mogul 472018 *note, for some reason these seals are rather expensive.....~$10 each, but they are much cheaper than M151 seals at 17 each. The F-M seals do not have the lip that prevents the seal from going too deep in the hub, but driving it in with a block of wood makes them seat just fine. IMPORTANT: The Portrayal Press reprint of the 1970 Edition of TM 9-2320-251-14 has a big error in the sequence of assembly for the hubs on pp24-25. The correct sequence (from the inside out) is as follows: 1. Grease seal 2. bearing 3. race 4. hub 5. race 6. bearing 7. tabbed washer 8. spindle nut 9. lock washer 10. lock nut Note: you'll need a 2 1/16 hub bearing locknut socket (for early jeep, Scout, and Land Rover) to get to the bearings. Price is generally about 10-15 bucks and is available from JC Whitney or any GOOD jeep parts dealer that understands that jeeps were made before the CJ-7 introduction in 1976. Shock Absorbers (2 per trailer): NAPA 94038 *this is for a mid 1970's CJ-5 with a 4cyl engine Springs: 1950's vintage CJ3A/CJ3B FRONT leaf springs (36.25x1.75 inch leaf springs) Spring Eye Bushings: 1950's CJ3A/B Front leaf bushings Shackles: 1950's vintage CJ3A/CJ3B shackles. Note there is a right and a left threaded shackle. You'll need one of each. Available from JC Whitney or any jeep parts specialist. These are commonly called "c-shackles" U-bolts: Again, 1950's CJ3A/B U-bolts for a Dana 25 axle. You want the "skinny" u-bolt as there is also a wide u-bolt to clear the pumpkin on a D25. With nuts, they run about 3.60 each from www.walcks4wd.com II Electrical System: For Taillights, the 24V bulbs can be replaced with 12V bulbs. A good upgrade is to go to M561 "Gama Goat"/M101 howitzer taillights with the full red lens. The housing is the same size, but the "lit area" is easily five times as large and they retain that "military " appearance. Part number is: 10929548-1. Lens is Ord 10920506 They are available NOS from Rapco Parts Company for 28.50 each. A pair with shipping costs 64.00. Price and availability as of 12/00 www.rapcopartscompany.com M416A1 used the later 'composite light' that's found on all modern military vehicles such as HMMWV, 5-ton, etc. The composite light is also much bigger than the little original taillight. The IV connector cable can be disconnected under the cover on the a-frame arm and replaced with a regular 4-wire trailer connector. It can be connected to the military chassis harness using 0.156 inch bullet connectors. Be sure to specify 0.157 bullets as there are several sizes of bullet connectors out there. The 14-16g bullets sold at AutoZone are .156 bullets and work fine. Walker Truck Supply has both IV Cables and body harnesses available. The body harness is $25 as of 3/01. (760) 244-8060 WWW.FLMV.NET has IV cables Welcome to MuttParts.com has body harnesses II. M-416 Tires/Wheels: -The M416 uses 7.00x16 tires on 4.5 inch x 16 wheels. The tire and wheel are the same as the M151 series jeep. -The M416B1 uses M422 Mighty Mite wheels and 6.00x16 tires. -1966 manufacture Stevens M416's use very long (2 1/2") 7/16" studs. They are very hard to find. The more common auto parts store 1/2" studs can be usedif you get new 1/2" lug nuts. The studs are all standard "righty tighty" threaded. -The tubes are a special 'short valve stem' type available from Army Jeep Parts Inc. Home page. for $10 each (12/00). -www.flmv.net also has tubes and theirs are $5. -LT245R16 truck tires will work if if used with inner-tubes. Again, get a JEEP innertube, not some pickup truck tube. -Denman "Cross Country" military tires are available from most tire shops for about $80-90 each. Tucker's Tire Company also stocks 700x16 NDCC tires for Jeeps. www.rapcopartscompany.com has brand new M416/M151 steel wheels for 24.95 each. III. Brake Parts Brake Cable: Best price so far has been 68 dollars from Army Jeep Parts in Bristol, PA. Army Jeep Parts Inc. Home page. The M416 and the M100 use the same brake cable. Home page. has all the small brake hardware...eccentrics, anchor pins, etc. I tried Antelope Valley Equipment for brake shoes, but after numerous phone calls on my dime to people who never got around to checking if they actually had the brake shoes, I gave up on them. It's bad business to neither return calls nor have a good answer for people when they call several times over the course of week. There's a firm called TJ Murray (do you own websearch, buddy) that I noticed had a stock of drums, etc for the M416. IV. Landing Leg/V-casting Available from Walker Truck Supply (760) 244-8060. No tension spring for the lunette eye is available, but a valve spring from a big engine works well enough. V.
