Window power without key on made EZ

Discussion in '80-Series Tech' started by LandCruiserPhil, Sep 3, 2012.

  1. Good chance this is posted somewhere but I was unable to find so if it a repost:flipoff2:

Wanted power to my windows and sunroof without the need of the key on.

3 step process once the drivers side kick panel is removed.

Step 1 - Remove the relay (noted by arrow) just pull
    [IMG]
    .
Step 2 - Make spade jumper
    [IMG]
    .
Step 3 - Install jumper as pictured
    [IMG]

Now windows and sun roof work without key on

I tested for a phantom load and measure less then 1 watt = no problem

I'm sure there are a bus load of nuns cringing somewhere but I don't care

New added bonus feature see post #76

    :flush:

Edit: Phantom load of <1watt has been located.
If you rarely drive your 80 this could of discharged your battery over a 3 week time period. By removing the lamp for the auto down button you can eliminate the <1watt load if it was an issue. Not sure how I ever found the button in the night.

Will this be essentially the same (location/appearance/etc.) on a '91? (I'm assuming you have something newer, because it seems everyone else does :) )

I just joined my accessory activated power cable to the always on power cable in the door.

Any plans to make this switchable with a dash on-off switch? I spoze it's no different than having manual wind-up windows that work all the time ;)

I see the pics. Sometimes I don't see the pics people post although other people see them.

Awesome. Done. One of the most useful mods ever.

Now, can you make the electronic seats so they only work with key ON.
  15. Actually a simple $5 relay under the seat is all you need, the wiring you need is there

Help a 'lectrical idiot out: What's that in terms of an amperage draw?
