I changed out the water pump and thermostat on my wife's 62, and since then I've had codes and a very hard start condition. the codes we got are 22 water temp sensor and 51 no IDL or NSW signal to ECU.

The temp sensor I can see because when we changed thermostats, the plug end of the sensor just fell off. I bought a replacement, but they may have given me the wrong style sensor.

The other code doesn't make much sense to me. The only thing we unplugged aside from the water outlet housing plugs was the sensor on the filter housing (MAF?).

Would either or both of these cause hard starts when cold?

First thing to check is the sensor. Wrong sensor=wrong signal and so on.

I chased a cold start problem for months once, I tried the alternator, battery, starter motor, and ignition switch. While I think some of those things contributed to it, the worst culprit in the equation was my Cold Start Injector. I removed it and cleaned it fairly well and the problem went away.

Is it the one indicated on this graphic?
