a freind of mine Kevin started up a small cruiser oriented company call wagon gear. he makes very very nice replacement tailgate and rear quarter panel interior panels. that have latches and a hinge so you can use ththere otherwise hidden spaces for storage. he mostly does the lids for 60's and 80's but after much convincing and prodding I got him to make a lid for my lv tail gate. many back and forths with a template until we got it just right. and here it is.
for those of you that feel an lv should be a museum peice stop reading here and go find another thread. but for those of you that are looking for a great lv mod check it out.

I believe Kevin would make more shoot him an email and say you saw mine on Mud in the 45 section.

Randy you could put one in the floor behind the front seats to gain acess to the huge unused area under the flooring. would be agreat way to mount subs. seeing how you are pulling hte body off the frame anyway whats wrong with adding a hiden box under the floor.

Kevin told me he was making one for a 45 series and I hate to say it, but I couldn't figure out how it was going to work (Owning a 45 lwbp all I think of are troops and trucks, what a dumbass:rolleyes: an LV was the furthest 45 from my mind). That looks great and makes perfect sense. Your door looks huge.

I bought one of his prototypes for my 80 and I can't say enough about Kevin and his ideas. The available space that was unused is great. I even managed to fit the blade of my Pull-Pal in there for the upcoming Nevada Trophy Challenge.

I bought one of his ARB fridge hinge kits. Even that included a template. His products are top notch and well thought out.

Makes your LV even cooler IMO.

I'm a huge fan of finding extra storage space wherever needed & I think this is a  mod. Dumb question but I assume the window still rolls up? How deep is the extra storage area? The best mod I've heard about is someone added a double burner stove in the tailgate.

window rolls up????
i have a lift gate/hatch no window in the tailgate like the 55's and 4runners
the extra storage area is pretty deep and split into 3 sections. in one section I have all my racket and tie down straps I could ever need. in the center one I have my jumper cables. i have room for more inthere maybe I will throw in a package of oil rags. and in the 3rd one I have a 20' 3" tow strap coiled up. I did not want to put too many heavy things in thre in that the tail gate is so HUGE and heavy to begine with. but it does make sense and organize my more squirly items. i am way pleased. if you are planing to use your lv at all this is a very nice mod

 I thought the LV's were similar to :pig: where the window rolls up from the tailgate. I was able to utilize the space in the front door bottoms for storage in my :pig:. There's a good bit of space below the rear floorboard too. I'm starting to see, in newer SUV's, where they have trap doors there. Pretty   I have also seen where some are using the space behind the cargo panels.

there are pluses and minus for hte lv to have a lift gate. plus it makes my car tent work better and provides shelter when open. but it would be nice to crack the back window while driving.esp. with the behind the hood vent that my lv has. right now my best option is the crack the rear passenger doors to get good flow. I actually put my front seats on hinges and have all my stereo crap mounted under them along with the front speakers one would normally mount int he door panels. but there was no way I was going to cut wholes in the door panels. my rear qarter inside panles are pretty shallow but instead of putting the steel covers back on I biscuited up some wood and have nice boards that are stained plue to match the exterior river blue body paint. also I was not as adverse in cutting holes in the panels for rear speakers. works for me.
I have been building my rear bumper and on close inspection I have a nice deep space between the back of the fuel tank and the rear cross member. I toyed with the idea of mounting a rear facing winch. but I don't think this truck is goingt osee that kind of trail use however an air tank might be a cool option.
