A while ago I had a mystery component catching fire on the intake manifold. After going through the FSM and parts diagram I've found its the glow plug resistor, basically a loose bolt causing arcing.

Now I want to fix it, but I'm struggling to tell what it's meant to be like. It has bakerlite(?) washers, three cables and is bolted to manifold. And is very charcoal/melty in my case.

Does the cable order matter? Are they meant to be insulated from each other or something? I can put normal ring terminals on and replace cable but I don't want to burn something out.

How exactly do I test the resistor?

I think I'll check the glow plugs too, in case they've seen more than 11V due to a short and burnt out.
 
The resistor is between the "bakelite" rings. That funny strip is the current sensor which was factory painted but would look now like peeled paint.
Here is a pic for explanation. It's for a 2H but it's almost the same.

Thanks Rudi, I need to rethink! The Bakelite is pretty much gone so may be shorted. Now just need to figure out what #'s to get from mr toyota..
 
I've had little luck with this using the parts manual, OEM manual or searches to find the physical layout or part #'s.

Anyone able to post a close-up photo of the glow plug resistor setup on a 1HDT? Please?? I'm losing hair over this.
 
Searching for 1HDT is not going to work.
What year and model is your Cruiser? (If you put this info in your signature line....... we don't have to ask this question).

My bad - I use an app, didn't notice sigs.

Dec '91 HDJ80R-GNMNXQ GXL with factory 1HDT.
