Hi all.
We had a very minor bump that has turned into a big problem. If we didnt have the D@*N pushbar on it there would have been much less damage.
Now for the tech part... Has anyone fixed a hood like this? is it fixable? There is also a bow along the side of the hood, Its not creased. When I lifted the hood it sounded like broken glass running down toward the windshield, Could it have been sound proofing?I will need a new grill also.
I will have to live with the bumper for now, I would like a ARB or the like someday.

Case in point...damage multiplier....sorry to hear that. I don't know about what may be inside the hood (fiberglass maybe?) but from my limited expirence it would take a VERY GOOD body shop to FIX that hood. There are so many things that have to be just right...the slope of the nose, the raised center section ect.

Let us know what you find out.

Looks like the push bar did it's job. Pushed right back into your cruiser. Sorry man, that kind of damage should be taken care of by a pro. Don't think you can DIY that back to shape and have it look like it did before. First thing I'd do is take the bar off.

Sorry to see that....the hood does look fixable w/o too much fuss. Should not need a new skin. As far as the broken glass sound...it is probably the adhesive type stuff they use from the factory to attach the hood reinforcing structure to the hood skin. If you remove your under hood insulation stuff, the busted up adhesive will probably fall out on you. Make sure whomever does the repair put a goodly amount of that adhesive back in there. Otherwise you could get what is termed "oil canning" going on...and that is just irritating. Good luck.

Yup, the bar is being removed tonight! I have seen others here with the same issues about POS bars but I didnt think of taking it off...Stupid me I suppose
I thought I might need a new hood, There are a few yards around that have 3-4 80's But they think they are made of gold even though they are wrecked.
Thanks for the info

Damn man, don't post that! I'm trying to sell one now!

One push bar....i mean damage multiplyer......i mean brush guard for sale $100 takes it home.

Dan,
I assume thats the whole hood....how much for the skin ? Just for future reference...as my wife wants one of those bars. I haven't relented yet...but ARB hasn't grown on her yet either.

You'd better eBay that sucka. I don't anyone here is going to buy it.

Ouch. That sucks.

I have one hanging on the wall in my garage. I took it off a couple of years ago. It was great for tying canoes to and what not but I figgered it would do what yours did if I ever hit anything. perhaps mine too will grace ebay...sorry to hear of your incident.

Yes, a hood. There is no "skin" on hoods. It does not include hinges, struts, washer nozzles or the insulator. It comes in prime.

Great- I'll take it! You can Paypal me the money anytime. I'll pick it up at my convenience.

Brian,
Interstate Auto Body Parts off 3100 South in SL has new hoods for $200 or so. Had a budy hit a deer in his 90 mini truck and the body shop quoted him more than 3K in parts. Less than $200 at Interstate got him all the parts he needed including fender, 3 part bumper, grill, side and turn lights.... I had a microburst come through and throw a 2x12 across my driveway and took out my hood about a year ago. Haven't fixed it yet as I want to paint the 80 this spring. Good luck,

Trent

toddslayter- just curious....why does your wife want one of these poser-bars for her SUV?

PlanetAutobodyparts.com shows them for $184....don't know about the quality...typical aftermarket I would guess...don't know if Veng USA has them...

Alaska,
She likes the "look" of the poser bar...her LR had a poser bar. I would prefer an ARB or similar...and actually would probably make my own that would look shockingly similar to the ARB.

Bear in mind this is after-market, usually off-shore from Tiawan.

Not that it couldn't be used but it certainly is not the same.
