Just thought I'd let everyone know I got out of colorado and made it the 600+ miles to Tulsa.
Loose smog pump belt is what was causing the squeaking which in return could have been the problem. I also changed the horribly old spark plugs and replaced the fuel filter for the second time in a...
I know not to leave stuff in there but Im in the middle of nowhere and everything I own is in there. They would have taken a long time to get everything out to find the valuables :)
just got the truck back. said the smog pump belt was too loose.
The squeak is gone and it seems to be running...
Thank you..
If the mechanics only knew I had fishing gear in the back of the truck worth wayy more than the truck itself...heck fly tying stuff alone is worth more than the truck!
no water around anyways...well a little drainage and it did cross my mind :)
I find it very hard to believe that...
Changed the plugs, they were filthy. Checked everything EXCEPT:
fuel line AFTER the pump
Fuel pipe at carb
Need help with these...
Also still haven't checked the smog pump since I don't know what to do..
belt for bypass and whatever else might be needed..as said in previous posts of mine...
I haven't checked it yet but lets say i bypass the smog pump anyways, working or not, would that matter?
changing spark plugs right now, they are super dirty, changed fuel filter.
Thank you everyone for the help...I'm staying out of the sun for another day..gonna try to figure things out.
Alternator is fine...the gauge did not move one time while all of the bucking and hesitation was going on.

Had the truck towed to Wray today. Drove fine all lastnight and this morning before I stopped for some gas outside of Cheyenne(approx 350 miles driven). After the gas stop the truck started sputtering, acting like mis fires. This was all on the hwy, so happening at 60-65 mph... and it just...
ya HWY22....
that's all I needed is to see those sick looking cruisers the other day sitting at the corner!
Looking good man...good luck on the adventure.
I know this sounds stupid but I just bought my cruiser this past spring and after a month or so of owning it it started having some starting issues. So I changed the alternator and the battery cables, got a new battery, checked a lot of items...
I said screw it and decided to take it fishing...
It starts right up with or without a few pumps of the pedal? After it stumbles it won't start up right away...how long do you have to wait until it starts back up?
the best tool I used was a breaker bar and a wrench taped on the end along with the help from the spouse. I used it when I had to get the water pump belt off...it's sooo tight but with a lot of pushing it popped on. Also like mentioned make sure you loosen alllll of the adjustment bolts and...
Daaang it! lol I ordered the ulc set...I knew it came with the middle link...now I have 4 :) I will have to get a factory + cable.
Thanks Spike!
I've been chasing down this starting problem and am waiting on my new battery cables to get here. I have already replaced one fusible link and was looking to replace the link between the Positive. See pictures.
In the first picture, this is the link I am looking for. I just bought one from...
yes, the last few times it has helped for some reason. It definitely turns like it's gonna start and then nothing. I'm in the process of ordering some new battery cables and another fusible link by the positive.
