Nice write up and pics. But--always a big but somewhere--Amazon has a wide assortment of new bearings for $5-$10. Bearing number is 6301-2rs. For that price Id rather put a new one in, especially if old one was noisy.

These things vary by state, but in some states you can buy the "remains" of a totaled vehicle from the insurance company for a small percentage of the amount you got as a settlement. Say they gave you 4 grand for a total loss, and you bought it back for 6 hundred, sometimes can be good deal.
