Blade: "as much as I learned and also hear often is that bolts no matter what strengh are not built for shear force"
- That is a black and white statement and the real world is gray. Have a look at the bolts used in steel structures.
Problem here is that ALL bolts are chinese made. The...

I'm a mechanical engineer with 30 years experience designing machinery. The following are my comments/opinions.
- The undercuts after the threads, are there to facilitate cutting the threads on a lathe.
- The large radius at the 11.6mm section is there to minimize the stress...
X 2000.....
Sorry, but I'm going to be the grumpy ol' phart here, and elaborate. I don't know how old the student is, or what they are studying, but a student needs low maintenance, reliable, cheap transportation that doesn't consume a bunch of their time and resources.
- Anything that's...

Sure it will fit, but why are you doing it?
The 'Suzy 4 cylinders are fantastic engines.. The DMax can be good too.. I prefer 6 cylinder engines myself
If the engine bay isn't wide enough, you can always widen the LJ70, and stretch the hood out..:D check out this Mini?
Take the bumper off....
My HZJ73 came with a funky steel grated tray that stuck out about a foot, where the bumper was supposed to be. That contraption was gone within a day of getting the 'cruiser home, and I haven't bothered making a replacement in the six years since.
Most don't...
Out of round tires would be my first guess. It's very common with the larger sizes.
Balancing is right up there also. You might have knocked a weight off.
Both show up doing a wheel balance..
You might try moving the back tires to the front, and see if that changes anything.
Just to clear the air, I WAS trying to be somewhat humerous :o
Being a cynical, sarcastic, old fart, sometimes my humour tends to be a little dry, and get's taken the wrong way..
If I offended anybody....well:whoops:

When things start to go goofy in a vehicle electrical...

You can keep ripping things apart, and testing, or you can listen to what Rick is telling you, and test the resistor. :flipoff2:
IMHO there is a 95% probability that it is your problem. Those things are perhaps the most Mickey Mouse component used on a 'Cruiser. As they fail...
The only way not to spill oil when you change it, is to have someone else do it!:p
To spill the least amount of oil, install a remote filter assembly..
Seriously, When changing oil, it should be done when the engine is up to temperature, and has just been shut off - that way the maximum...
All of the fold down windshield frames are rusted on the bottom, unless they were rust-proofed when replaced last time. It's just a question of degree.
I believe that Mustang in Armstrong, BC normally stocks the frames, and ships them over from Japan in vehicles they bring in, so their freight...
@Lee777
Go to the top of this page, and just below the IH8MUD.COM logo on the top left, there are 5 red buttons..
The middle one is marked "Classifieds".

I suspect nobody is answering, because you basically have answered your own questions.
Your rig was built after 12/89, so why do you think the earlier parts will fit?
FYI, the HZJ73 started production in 1/90, with the 8" high pinion front diff.. plus some other differences to...

You are asking for advice, but you aren't listening to the pro's that are posting... Wayne and John both do this stuff on a daily basis for a living..
Everybody else that has posted in this thread is telling you basically the same thing. If you want an easy swap, do a 22R or...
I'm not sure many really understand the difficulty and time involved in doing an engine swap. The new lump just doesn't bolt into place and hook-up like they should, and they take way more money and time than what one initially thinks. Probably double the first estimate. It is never a money...
@prado t:
They are have their place - my 24 valve Cummins will tow an 8000 lb. trailer up the snowshed hill 10 to 20 Kmh faster than the HZJ73 will do empty.... :beer:
X2 what Wayne said - actually, I normally leave my hubs locked all year unless I head out onto the highway in the summer..
But then I live in a rural area.
And I push that 4x4 button, or pull the lever at any speed. Just be absolutely certain no tires are slipping when if you do it.
@Ratpuke:
I've tried Michelin Ice's on personal and company vehicles a few years back, and had a couple sets of Nokian's on a Heep XJ. Had a set of Michelin Alpins on that Heep that had amazing traction, and an equally amazing wear rate. One winter, and a bit of warm weather in the spring...
Good to see you're okay!
X2 for "Phil in BC"'s comment about Mud Tires - probably the worst tires to be driving the Coquihalla on, in the variable conditions one gets there this time of year.
IMHO, Blizzaks are the only thing to run once you are beyond Hope.
I had BFG M/T's years ago...
