I have all four with the boots down. You can read the labels. I called Bilstein and they said to mount them with the boots down. The labels are put on correctly. The labels upside down should be an indication that you have them mounted upside down. Those of you that think that Bilstein...
I've been running premium for 29 years. The only time it has pinged is when regular was the only grade available. Most of my driving is 2000 to 7000 feet in Altitude.
I've been running PIAA 10904 H4 Intense White - H4 60/55W=135/125W Extra Intense White Bulbs for over 3 years with no issues. They are very bright. You have to see the high beams on to appreciate them. After three years I'm still impressed how far the high beams project every time I use them..
The 1/2 x 14 TPI BSPT is $36.75 on page 2538 at McMaster.com. It is $35.24 for an imported tap on MSCdirect.com on page 377. Both companies are among the largest distributors of hardware and tools in the world. They both have very reasonable shipping cost.
There is an aftermarket cross member that bolts in place of the xfer case rear cover that allows the use of this bell housing. When I bought a complete engine out of an '87 FJ60 I decided to use that bell housing. I bought the kit from Tim Hill who sold me the engine. Cruiser Corps has the...
This statement is wrong. All pipe threads used on a 2F engine (at least through '78) are BSPT. People that say there is no difference, do not care about the difference. I know, "well it does not leak" does not make it the right method to use. If you want to use the right tap then go to...
Bypass Tube, Tranny to Xfer
After seeing the bypass hose that used 18mm banjo fittings in my thread on bypass hoses, I was intrigued about their versatility in this application. I took a different approach in that I wanted to see if this could be accomplished using 3/8” seamless tubing and two...
My DUI HEI has been in my 40 for over 10 years with no issues. The only hardware issue I had installing the unit was my dis-like for the off the shelf spark plug wires which I fixed by having a custom set of 10mm wires made.
I would be curious if you knew someone that had another HEI you could try to see if the issue goes away. If another HEI does the same thing, then I would look for the issue being the vehicle harness and not the HEI.
On my '78 there are two heavy gauge ground wires made from welding cables. One from the negative battery straight down to the frame and the other attaches to one of the started mounting bolts and then over to the frame. With everything you've done I'm inclined to think this has nothing to do...
Stop playing games with yourself. Gosh, is it going to hold, did time present a magical fix. Dude, give me a break. Pull the suspect bolt out and see if there are aluminum particles from a stripped (partial or otherwise) housing. Why have you not pulled the bolt out. Are you afraid of what...
Wow, that was a lot of work. It looks great - job well done. I went another way and designed my skid plate in AutoCAD and had the largest metal fabrication house in Tucson, AZ fabricate it. Except for one small gusset it is made from a single sheet of 3/8" steel.
