    B-diesel problem

Interesting to see this post again ... it's 4 years old! After all it had nothing to do with the fuel cap. The problem was a non airtight connection in the fuel return line. I also know now my BJ40 has no water sedimenter; it never had. I guess Toyota didn't install water sedimenters for the...

    12Volt Alt on 24Volt System

No, never noticed any, and I am using this setup for several years. But ofcourse it's important not to overload the battery. My Mercedes 209D also had a battery beneath the driver seat, and that's a stock setup. Gr Ton

    12Volt Alt on 24Volt System

I have such a setup. The converter charges a 60Ah third battery. To prevent drawing current when the car is idle, I have attached the converter to the ACC position of the ignition switch. My converter is 10A. Not too much, but enough for my applications: a radio, a 12V trailer. Sometimes I use...

    Dual battery question

I have connected my converter to the ACC position of the ignition switch. This prevents draining the batteries when not in use for a longer period. Ofcourse, you won't have a permanent 12V source, so your radio will loose it's presets. Gr Ton

    tach question

I have been looking for a tach too (1979 BJ40), but never found any info about a factory tach. And there are no built in factory sensors for driving a tach. Best way to install a tach is to derive an AC voltage from the alternator. But you need a tach that can be adjusted, so you have to...

voltage at startup for 24 v system

two healthy batteries in series should deliver between 25.2 and 25.6 Volt before starting. You'd better measure that with an accurate voltmeter directly at the batteries; the voltmeter at the dashboard may not be accurate enough. Perhaps more important: both batteries should read about 12.6 ...

I agree with brownbear. I haven't got EDIC and the engine starts and stops just fine. And it's funny to see the amazement of a passenger when I pull out the key and the engine keeps on running ... Ton

Replacing head gasket B engine; any tips?

I don't know, only 5 digits on the odometer ... My guess is 350,000 km (217,000 miles), but could also be 250,000 or 450,000 km (155,000 or 280,000 miles). Ton

Replacing head gasket B engine; any tips?

This morning I noticed an obvious leak in the head gasket of my 1978 BJ40 (3.0 liter B engine); coolant was leaking out. When I replace the head gasket, are there other things I should do while the head is off anyway? Ton

    Parking brake adjusment

My parking brake does not work properly, so tried to adjust, following the Toyo Body & chassis repair manual. Turned the adjusting nut, near the transfercase, counterclockwise, but it blocked whilst the rear axle was still movable. Does this mean the braking shoes are gone and should be...

    Battery blow up - HJ60

I Have installed a third battery beneath the driver seat which is charged by a 10 amp 24/12V converter. This way you can draw high currents at 12 V. And, because the converter is wired to the "acc" position, I have a permanent 12 V from the third battery without draining the main 24V system...
