This is part of the famous cruiser lean. Your spring bushings might be worn out, so axles get to move slightly sideways. Also, check u-bolts, so they are not loose.
And for all those who commented, or didn't, apologies if I expressed myself badly. I didn't mean to be rude, hurt anybody's feelings or criticize anyone or their project's, I was just wondering...
I like seeing, and reading about, museum quality restorations. And also hardcore corner stuff. :)...
Well, I wasn't talking about repairing, but replacing non-broken parts with new. I thought about this for a while, but I had to make this post when I saw original, just about perfect (at least in pictures), factory imstalled emblems replaced with new, oem, but not original for that exact...
Ok, I'm from northern Europe and my life took me away from cruisers for a while, but they are still lurking behind my garage corner. :)
I've been catching up for few weeks, and can't help wondering, where is this scene going...
Complete frame-off restos, I understand and highly recommend. But...

This is something I can't understand. Why would you have to replace gasket or hose that doesn't leak?
There is an old saying I think you americans came up with. Was it "if it dont run, chrome it". No, it was "if it ain't broken, don' t fix it."
And my first thought was "wow, nice thing about these pop-tops, you can get to the cooler from inside and the door, compared to rtt and the cooler sliding under a cabinet.
Oh, and I also have original PTO winch and I've been thinking about moving it behind the transfer, under back seat and getting an electric winch to the front. Then I'd like to route the PTO winch cable behind and around a pulley to the front, so I could use it as a rear winch with a snatch block...
Yes, that's the plan. No build thread here as of yet, but might start one of the whole car. I have the parts for the locker except compressor, and two long spline axles + several original birfs, longfields are coming when those are destroyed.:D
Nice cruiser! Just went through this whole thread.
You have many things just like I have, and I'm going to have, like auto locker in the rear and original in the front, I'm just going to use air to control it. At the moment just doing (or trying to do/going to do) several rust repairs, frame...
In SF yes, in FF by grease.
For removing cone washers, tapping on the bolts is the way in Toyota manual, for tapping the flange we have a term that would translate most likely "redneck hack job".
I've tested my 20,5 2H plugs driving them 24 volts by cable, it reaches full glow in like 8 seconds, that's as far as I've gone, 'cause in that time you can clearly see if it glows in the tip or by the side. This is the only way to see if plug glows right, old plug can have good resistnce, but...
Well, I thought that in these basic systems, the limiting thing for the voltage is the battery. When you turn key to glow position, relay connects current, and only thing changing is the controller glowing or not. If it starts ok with these plugs in normal glow time, say like count to twenty...
For expedition or even shorter trips, if getting funky chicken or other EDIC problems, you can pry off the EDIC shaft to get home, you just have to either stall your engine with gear or open hood and manually turn the stop-lever on the pump. It will sit freely in the RUN-position.
If I...
Yep, the sensor for gauge is larger, round one, and the one for EDIC is small, looks like a nut with wire, same as in every small toyota's oil pressure warning light. On-off type.
Yes, EDIC is fast when it's doing the funky chicken.
The fuse RED47 is mentioning is in the dash fusebox, but I think -86 has flat fuses, not glass ones.
All above have been good things to check, also, at least here in Finland we have had several that were fixed by re-heating all...
