@vipergrhd Nope, prolly need to update my info on here... I took a new job in Sac, living in Roseville. I did drive the 40 down here in May when I first came. Took a circuitous route that got me here from Boise in just a shade under 24 hours driving time. That's making good time, right? :D
Long time no post...
Had a hard time getting as much done as I wanted to before the trip, but I drove it from Boise to Sacramento last week. The Potato has a new home! I took the scenic (read: long) route - west into Oregon, then south through Lakview into CA, then Susanville, over to Lake...
Not much tech in this thread. I flew into Chicago this evening and one of the first things I see when I get here is this 40...gotta love it! If it is anyone from MUD, nice truck!
Alrighty-o the wood mod:
The two pics of parts are the mock ups. The actual piece is round and fully enclosed.
On the installed pic, you can see the red boot below the rod going through the firewall. On the other end of the rod there is a cotter pin holding it in (can't really see it) where...
Hey Hector,
I can't really add anything that you are missing. The things I always seem to need/use on long journeys are either unforeseeable breakdowns which usually involve new parts that I would have NEVER carted along for the whole trip (no much you can do about these other than do as much...
It is beautiful and we have extremely close access to everything outdoors. I'm sad to leave. I can walk to the Boise river in about 10 minutes. There are 3 dams close to me on the river with the first one about a 5 minute drive (a little diverson dam but still creates a nice puddle for trout)...
You can see the difference in water level at the reservoir. The pick in this post was about 6 weeks ago. The pick in last post was last week. It filled up quick! In the glared, washed out pick you can spot (kinda) an elk across the river from where we were fishing. We also saw 3 bald eagles that...
Still driving without windshield wipers. I have tried about all I could try on the old piece and it just doesn't want to turn. I'll just buy new parts but we are basically done with rainy weather until late fall so I have some time.
In the meantime, I got out of the business partnership I have...
@JohnnyC it's actually a targeting system. Look through the top hole and hit what you see.
Seriously though, seeing your post made me take a look at mine. You can see the minor rust and all-around nastiness of it...stripped it down and am waiting for primer to dry as I write this. Thanks for...
It is definitely supposed to be horizontal. Other than that, I'm not sure what's going on. Everything else seems to match mine (from memory). Does anything on the handle shaft look twisted or otherwise strange?
Edit: added a pic of mine. Seems like the orientation/alignment matches yours. My...
Since getting the starter motor in, I haven't done tons except actually get the Potato registered and start driving around. Since we have had lots of snow/rain recently I decided before gauges and carb, I better get my windshield wipers working again. A couple years ago they quit so it's time to...
Could be that I made the assumption (based on my past experience) that he was wrenching up until the last minute and had to leave..."Hang on, I almost got it...hang on...hang on...DONE! Let's go jump these Cruisers!!"
Anyone else find it odd that their commercial started with one of them with the hood up working on his rig? I don't think I've ever seen a commercial before that so honestly represented the reality of car ownership :D
I'm looking at upgrades to LED. Is this thread the leading authority on that changeover?
For anyone that has done the change... Are the LED's in the instrument panel too bright? When I drive my wife's car I have to turn her lights way down because I have a hard time adjusting my eyes between...
