Great post, thanks for the tip. My big buddy is about 3 years old. I haven't run into any problems but don't have nearly the hours yours does. Now I'll know what to do if I have problems.
Good thread. I'm thinking about one of the Yaesu all band radios like the 857.
As a point of information for guys wanting to transmit out of the ham bands, here's another option: Part 90 radios are really easy to buy and program. They'll legal on both ham bands (part 97) and non-ham bands...
Another vote for the Larson 150 5/8 NMO whip. They're cheap, reliable, and tough. That's why you see them on just about every commercial truck, emergency service vehicle, and bus that runs VHF.

Wow, I get nervous towing a 2500 lb cargo trailer with my 4Runner. I couldn't imagine towing twice that weight. If you do it, post the results. Have you thought about saving your 4Runner and buying a $500 POS domestic 1-ton as a tow vehicle? 4Runners are great, but they've never been known as...

1) loose filler cap, remove drain plug, drain old oil. duh
2) remove two of the snaps on the rubber...
Hey all, I'm new here. Since I'm in the same situation as the OP, I thought I'd chime in. I got my 2000 4Runner a year ago with 103K miles. I immediately switched to synthetic (first Mobile 1, and now Penziol Platinum 5w-30).
I never knew that one could obsess so much over engine oil until I...
Great choice. 3rd gen 4Runners are so popular and so abundant on the used market that you can be picky when you're shopping. There are a few small issues to deal with for the 3rd gens, but nothing that would keep you from buying a specific truck. Like others said, hold off for one with a clean...
