I have a '72 w/SBC, SM420, 4" Rough Country Lift, 5ea. brand new 35x12.50 BFG's on black powdercoated rims, rattlecan OD green paint, rough '81 seats, new Painless Wiring, electric fan doesn't overheat, custom front and rear bumpers, hard top and doors need some work. Overall, super solid rig...
I know the engines are very similar. Try the FAQ's or search this forum. I have learned almost everything I know from just trying different searches and sifting through the thousands of posts.
Good luck.
Sweet ride. I'm in Bakersfield and travel through the 126 all the time. If you need help with anything let me know. You just missed SURF & TURF!!!! 500+ landcruisers in Pismo.
I have a '72 with a 350, SM420, mated to the 3-speed. Much rougher shape than yours though.
Congrats
I don't have that much experience with Speedos, but I would count on some sort of adapter. I would call equus and see what they say.
We have a custom gage shop called Fleet Speedometer here in Bakersfield. You might call them too. I went with equus guages but only put the vitals back in...
the fix
Thanks for the link antfj, do you happen to recall the size of the nut holding the brake drum on? I don't have one big enough so I'll have to go to the store.
Right after it happened I punched in a search and I guess it isn't that uncommon.
I had all four tires on stands checking TC operation and was going to get out and pulled the parking brake out not realizing it was still in gear and BANG BANG. Scared the crap out of me and now the parking...
What a Bit*h, I just sheared of the bolts that holds on my parking brake. I had my rig on stands checking out the transfer case operation and I pulled the parking brake not realizing it was still in gear and BANG!! I barely got it shut down in time to keep the cable from sucking through the...
Driveline
Thanks fellas, I need to fix my e-brake anyway so I will take off the driveline today and take her for a spin. I'm almost positive it's a linkage issue due to what I found so far.
What I've found...
I put the rear end on jack stands and then jacked up one front corner.
I then put the transmission in gear and locked the hubs.
I then put the TC in 2hi and spun the front wheel. The wheel spun freely along with the front drive line.
From here, I put the TC in 4hi...
Don't Cut
I wouldn't. You'll have to cut some for the 36" tires, but just cut what is necessary and put some cool fender flares on it. I like the modded, but stock look. Just my opinion.
Hello all,
My 4WD is broken. I have a '72 FJ40 w/SBC, SM420 trans, mated to the 3-speed Toyota transfer case and can't get the front axle to drive, although the 2WD will go into low range.
Here is what I have done so far...
1. Put the rig on jack stands, engaged the hubs and spun each...
