I actually managed to get my EGR valve off without taking off the studs. It was a little tough but manageable. As far as the big EGR union nut I just used a crescent wrench, it worked fine. My nut was super rusted as well, I just sprayed some penetrating oil on and it turned off just fine...
This is what I tell my wife:
From an economic standpoint, we are pretty much in a recession. If the value of the dollar continues to decline and faith is lost in our economy, a depression will soon follow. Then, in a depression I believe that only three things will have "real" value; Gold...
quick question
Man this was helpful. After I threw a code 71 (1994) I was frightened to see how many things could be wrong with the EGR system. I just did this test and registered about 29.7 ohms, so I am guessing that is close enough to the range. Anyway, my question is this: Is there...
Yes I believe it does throw a code. But I am not sure about the process of pulling the code on a '96. Someone may need to correct me but I am pretty sure you will need to take it in because you have OBDII as the diagnostic system. Be thankful that it did throw a code because that should help...
I did this on my Taco also. When you live in the rust belt those O2 senors can be a nightmare. I just tightened the remaining nut real good and hoped that it held and sealed, and it did. I never noticed any leaks and my CEL never came on. I drove it for about 10k miles like that until I sold...
I figured it out. When My dad checked the transmission fluid level he unplugged one of the vacuum lines that were kind of in the way. I ran it for about 20 miles but noticed they were unplugged when I got back and put them back in. The funny part is that the CEL didn't come on until about 200...
I think the O2 sensors are original, so at 190K it makes sense that they might be the problem. The Intake tube seems tight and not cracked, but I will give it a better look tomorrow.
CEL comes on randomly since I put in new plugs, belts, idler pulleys, and new fluids all around. Pulled the codes and got both 25 and 26 which are running rich and running too lean. Has anybody ever had this? What could it be? Thanks

I picked a couple up at ACE hardware. I believe a 10.9 grade. I bent the snot out of one, but it did the job.
For the pump cover I just followed the write up on here. I got two #3 phillips bits and tapped the screws with a hammer for a good 30 seconds and they came right out. I felt like...
Tried this method and worked good, so thanks. This was definitely the cheapest route considering I could not figure out the crow bar method.
I called at least 15 local (Milwaukee) places to try to rent a big torque wrench but the biggest pretty much everyone had was a 250 ft/lbs. Finally I...
Some good ideas, I think I will go with the chain wrench. If I had an electric drill I would give the flat iron trick a shot, but I don't. I do like the chain idea also but I am picturing the AC pump pulley getting in the way, wasn't that the case? Thanks for the input.

Today I replaced my front crank seal and oil pump seal (with much frustration) and finally faced the task of torquing the crank nut back on. I rented a 600 ft/lbs torque wrench but have not yet decided on the best method to hold the crank pulley while I torque the nut. I have read on here that...
Ok so here is probably a dumb follow up question. First of all, I bought the LC. The owner assured me that the oil pressure was fine and the pressure gauge indicated that also so I am not worried about it. But... the oil light is on, now I thought that most vehicles only have an oil pressure...
