its out. but tanks in amazing shape. i put the acetone in and shook it, definitely has rocks, like actual pebbles and stuff. Got some out, but im not messin with putting this thing back in there. Anyone wanna trade the stock tank w/ spare tire brace and stuff for one of the stupidly overpriced...

So whats the witchcraft needed to get this damn tank out? everything is unhooked. but it catches on EVERYTHING. if its not the sway bar perches, its the shackle bolts, the filler neck stick out piece, the angular braces for the rear bumper, and everything in-between. I can already say I am...

Alrighty. Todays plan. I have a big box of spare hardware. A big metal tin of acetone. and a gallon jug of vinegar. First the acetone and hardware, shake up and knock junk loose. then dump out, repeat with vinegar. Then let tank dry for a while. IF this does not work, local auto shop teacher...

is it the same crank as for the engine? because I have that. otherwise I have no idea. I have to get under there and look at it more, but we have 65mph winds today so the odds imma go sit in there and have a bunch of crust and crap blow in my face is low lol

same spot for mine but I still only have one 5 gallon pan lol gotta drain some, plug it back, do something with that stank old gas (probably going to put it in the FJ but then im worried what its going to do to that fuel system), and drain some more, repeat 3 times. still have to get the spare...

Even just shoppin around at fuel tanks. Cruiser Yard has one for 589 on ebay. Like. I find it wild that not only is a steel box that will need modification to fit it $2200, and a crusty old used tank is $600. I have noticed that is a huge divide with the land cruisers. The people who put the LC...

Yeah I always reiterate to people I will take a high mile car over a low mile one ANY day. This is exactly why. Water pump was shot, I got a new one but they are a pain to get so I bought two. Few hoses are swollen, gonna do those too. The fuel issues. Tires are crusty and from 2016. Wiring...

yeah OEM - its just more stuff I really didnt want to deal with. I expected to be driving this to work by now lol Was supposed to be fully running/driving when I bought it and only sitting 2 years. Turned out to be 5 years sitting and not driven for decades. lol

OR! is there a replacement fuel tank option that isnt GROSSLY overpriced? I see that long range tank, but its $1600 (correction 2100$+) - and for that I can get a fully hand welded all aluminum one from Bain Racing in australia and shipped to me, not a less expensive steel box.

I guess now comes the fun part. Getting the spare out, and lowering a tank with 12 gallons of gas in it and my drain pan is only 5. lol

So I broke the fuel line. This is a good and a bad thing. Bad - i live in a tiny town and cant find a fitting locally so i need to order online while the tank is peeing. The good - the tank isnt peeing so my fuel problem is in the tank. Secondary bad - a new fuel tank is STUPID expensive and...

I only have 31x10.5x15s on it - I assume it came factory pretty similar in size? Not sure what the gearing is on this thang but I just assumed the straight six would have some more pep in its step. Once its runnin good I will worry about getting more air in/out

‘74 FJ55 fuel tank not like the others….

Im going to bring this back from the dead a little here - looking at this hose routing, where does it vent to bring fresh air into the tank to displace the fuel? a the 770195 part? I attempted to view the link provided later, and its just a list type catalog with no images.

The struggle to find the correct diagrams continues. I have no lines from the fuel tank, to the engine bay besides the fuel feed line. I have no return line, no evap lines, no charcoal canister, nothin. The other day when it wasnt gettin fuel and left me hangin - when I pulled the fuel line off...

I think @Ol Yeller is onto something. I am reading up on the vent and charcoal canister mess - and apparently I should have a line along the passenger side to the air cleaner. I do not have this, might be on drivers side. The diagrams from work SUCK for this - theres at least 20 pages of fuel...

My cap is in really poor shape - not sure if its doing much but thats worth a try for sure. If the vent is plugged, am I gonna have to drop the dang tank? lemme check my parts diagrams again real quick....

Currently tracking my issue. Tank looks good - little sandy type stuff in the bottom but nothing bad - i think its just dirt particles that blew into the ripped open hose while it sat. But i ran a metal hanger into the fuel tube from inside the tank, and its good. I run wire up the fuel line...
