My 82' FJ60 had the same configuration. I believe it was a dealer installed A/C as was common in the early 80's. Alternator location would be low if A/C were not in the truck. They simply mounted the compressor on a bracket over it.
About 10 years ago the compressor went out and I changed...
Small point, but maybe a valuable one should you return to the truck and it has vanished!
Buy your insurance through AAA instead of at the border. Reason? At border insrance they won't insure a vehicle for theft if it is over a certain age. Used to be 20 years old, but now I think it is...
Similar response to welding dab with a slightly different approach.
Get a piece of steel bar. Say 1/8 X 3/4 X 6". Drill a hole slightly smaller than the bolt dia. Plug weld through the hole to the exposed portion of the bolt. Patience..a few tries are often required (need to get enough weld in...
Ditto that. USGS was the bible before GPS.
I also use Google Earth. Start with a print based map then trace path in Google Earth. Depending on whether you pay for the service (Professional version) you can pick waypoints and load them into your GPS (at least with Garmin). Or load them...
If I sleep in the 60 I use Coleman cots that span the rear wheel wells and cantilever over the folded rear seat. Full 6ft. + length and two abreast they are snug to the outer panels with storage underneath. I have sets of those collapsable silverized front window sunscreens. Pop them open they...
Ditto on California. I believe the conversion has to be tested and certified by CARB for it to be legal here. Be interested to hear if anyone has done it?
I've used Gorilla lugs for the last few years, cuz' you get the locking bit. Come in 21mm. They flake and are soft. On the west coast the rust issue isn't as much of a problem though.
A buddy had a set in his 40. Superfirm, which is OK by me. Had a few tars after a couple of years but given the price a good deal IMO. Velour...good if you have a 1980's Lincoln.
Seems like a little fabrication program may be in the works, but if you want to purchase the 40gal. tank see Man-a-fre here is link
MAF FJ60 Long Range Replacement Fuel Tank
Looks like they are out of stock...so maybe the fab option is the only option... today.
I would suggest looking at the manufacturer's recomendations on rim minimum width for the selected tire. Try BFGoodrich Tires as an example. Select the tire you are interested in and look under sizes and specifications. I suppose it depends on the manufacturer, and it has been done, but...
Unfortuanately that is the delima with seting up a truck for the trail and then having to drive it on freeways etc. The are compromises and the trick is to find the appropriate balance...which is often a very individual thing.
Unless you are trailering the rig, if you travel long distances...
40 gal. tank replaces rhe OEM unit. Bolts right in and uses all existing plumbing, fuel gauge, etc. purchsed at MAF. Spare tire needs to be relocated so it is mounted to a Kaymar bumper. I fabricated an adaptor that lets me mount 2 tires to the carrier, so there is some weight well aft of the...
I have tweeked my suspension on my FJ60 over the years to fit much the same criteria as you are describing.
My trips are typicallly fairly long and I carry a lot of supplies, spares, tools, etc. Add a couple of passengers and I found even the OME HD suspension needed some help.
I have OME...
