I have an 80 with a 1HDT and 315 tires. On sagging 2" springs it would rub on the rear flares when wheeling but was OK on the street. Performance is a bit sluggish on stock gears but I plan on changing to 4.88s soon.
I DD mine in severe traffic in Manila (a 6 mile commute can take more than an hour) and its been extremely reliable. Our roads here are also in pretty bad shape and easily take a toll on smaller vehicles so pickups and SUVs are very popular. When I got mine around two years ago I did have to put...
Nice! If you're from Manila and still can't find the source of the clUnk, let me know. I know a few mechanics who know the 80 inside and out who could have a look at it.
Btw, is that rust or mud on your steering knuckle?
OT: You drive a manual, part time 4WD HDJ80? Where are you from? :)
Like others have said, check the bushings on the control arms by the frame. I had the exact same clunk as yours (speed bumps and driveways). Took apart the control arm and found this. (new bushing on the left)
Hi guys,
I noticed that my 80 makes a rubbing round from the rear whenever the suspension is flexed. (enough to raise a tire) At first I thought it was the the tire rubbing against the flare but I don't see any rub marks on the flare. What do you guys think it could be?
I'm running 33 inch...
Hi Guys,
My HDJ80's airconditioning isn't blowing any warm air (the temperature adjuster doesn't do anything). Based on the FSM, I suspect either a stuck heater valve or air mix servomotor.
Anyone have access to the part numbers for these?
Thanks!
Mikael
Finally received the LEDs here in the Philippines and they are amazing! The light is super white and bright.
Thanks man!

Had the same problem and did the following to solve it, in order:
Ruled out tires since they were brand new and my truck had already been pulling to the left prior.
1. Replaced tie-rods ends--didn't seem to make much of a difference, my old tie rods were probably still in decent shape

I have a 1996 HDJ80 which does not have a map light (the light next to the rear view mirror). Anyone know if there was an OEM version of the map light without sunroof controls or sub tank gauge (my truck has neither)?
Would this be difficult to wire up?
Thanks!
Thanks for the tips guys. Will continue to investigate what that connector is for. The truck does not have cruise control nor lockers. Would the connectors still be present if the option wasn't installed?
I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I've been poking around the engine bay of my truck and found a loose connector (red) and pipes (for the aircon?) that seems "patched" into the firewall (yellow).
Anyone know what it is? I'm pretty sure it didn't come this way from the factory but I...
