Kurt, You can use the existing cone shaped insert but it needs to be cut down and a little welding done to fit the K&N. Also you need to Remove the piece from inside the canister that sticks up. The existing reworked cone shaped insert will fit into the recessed area in the bottom of the canister allowing the filter to sit on top of it and low enough to clear he lid.

A round flat piece of metal with a small ring ( same diameter) as the K&N hole tacked to it. See photo, I hope this is as clear as (MUD) Ha Ha.
