I need to get the brake lights working on my towing setup. Searching here led me to the 5-to-4 wire converter solution, which seems to be the standard fix for vehicles like ours with separate turn signals.

I'm looking for a proven recommendation. There seems to be a range, from simple inline converters to more powerful units that need a circuit back to the battery. There are several "universal" ones but only two (Hopkins & Curt) that claim to be compatible with the 60 series.

I have only occasional, light duty towing needs: 2-4x a year I might rent a 3/4 ton open trailer to haul a dozen bags of concrete or similar. I don't need something to power a camper.

Can someone recommend a proven easy-to-wire 5-to-4 converter?

I have found all of them to be a temporary fix. They all die over time

OK, what's a permanent fix?

There isn't one that I'm aware of. Just prepare to replace them occasionally.
