Failed smog because my smog man couldn't check my timing. He was looking for the marks and gave up after ten minutes. It's a 1990 fj-62 strait six 4.0 liter

I don't know if it's in the same place as the 60 but check the bell housing.

The BB or single dot is the timing mark. The others a couple of teeth to the left are TDC. Get some white enamel and a q-tip and paint them when you find them making it much easier to see when working manually or with a timing light.

Both pictures above in this thread show the marks as you would see them in the vehicle to time it. The mark to the right is the 7 degree mark and the mark to the left is the TDC mark.

Went back to smog man with info. He found it but said he can't reach it and gave me my money back. He said my 2.5" lift and custom bumper was too much for him to handle. Last time I'll see him. Thanks again for all your help
