Bought new in 1998. First 100 Series to arrive on the dealer's lot.
While I have employees that are younger than my vehicle, none of them work as hard!
The vehicle is stiff enough and does more road than trail. LT is a hard tire.
At 315K miles, there's enough inside panel-rattle as it is.
At 143K is when the OME undercarriage was installed. Since then I've tried Bridgestone Revos ($$$), Yokohama Geolander (45K miles), and even a Big O branded...
After about a year of scratching my head, techstream, rechecking torque and replacing ancillary parts, found the culprit behind the ever-so-slight misfire...
Now I know where the missing insert from my sparkplug socket went!
Chipped-off the melted rubber, cleaned the area, reinstalled the plug...
Yep. Same thing here.
It would appear our bargain-basket switch replacement isn't exactly a direct replacement.
But at the price, I'll go along with holding my finger on the "up" for a longer than I used to.
I do miss it tho...
Bubbles has been on various brands of 265's for over 10 years. While the bigger tires look cool, tire weight in the 40's rather than high 50lbs is more important to me. Just installed a set of Cooper Discovers...
Just FYI: Got 48K miles off the Geolanders (265/75-16). Primarily highway. They got louder and harsher after 30K, but seemed like a good tire for the price.
Giving Cooper Discoverers a try now...
When new, our vehicles were as silent running as any Los Angeles Class attack submarine.
It was almost spooky quiet when I test drove my 100 Series in 1998... especially compared to my old 62 Series.
But – like us - as vehicles age they develop interior creaks, rattles and squeaks.
My guess...
Thank you for asking the question!
I've been on 265/75-16 Yokohama Geolander A/T for the last 45K and am happy with them (albeit they felt a bit floaty at first).
Gas mileage has been pretty good... at least Landcruiser-wise. Solid 12 in town and 16 highway. Solid grip in all my situations.
