Would lead sheathing, caps, shields and other fabrications over vulnerable systems block electromagnetic pulses? Is there some other material that would be more effective in keeping the vehicle operational in rescue and /or escape situations? Would a lead lined replacement parts box protect the...
Hey Crushers,
Sorry to read about the loss of your pal Cruiser...
in the tradition of the posters here, a little memory shared about dogs.
Dad taught me to trust no one, I often disobeyed that wisdom to my peril, he was regretably right it would appear.
But he was fond of dogs, and...
Lot of fancy difficult and expensive water paints dominate body shops by law. I'm old fashioned oil paint guy and am looking at Tremclad (rustoleum) type oil Alkyd in gallon and pint :hillbilly::hillbilly:cans for spraying and for compatible touch up and repaint benifits.
Did I mention...
Hi Bujbot,
An Arizona Cruiser! Wow... congratulations, lots of envy here. Nicccce Frame!
Like you I am local and am a member of Mud, 3 years now, but not this club as I am not wheeling yet and will be some time yet before I offer to join as my trucks and garage are both works in progress...
Picked up a Yankee 1980 (nov'79) https://forum.ih8mud.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=634858&stc=1&d=1337481749 hummm... image shows in preview...just might load..
The idea is to do a Can Am with my Canuk Cruiser 1980 (dec'79) I am noticing lots of dissimilarities in the engine compartment...
Thanks Roboos,
Yeah, I can imagine it would be a nasty removal of the gasket if covered with Permatex on both sides...
Well, I ended up coating both sides of the gasket in motor oil instead and installed it that way.
Cheers
Are the crimped lock washers preferable over the standard lock washers on push rod covers due to the light torque on the thin metal.
Also, should the permatex gasket maker material be spread on both sides of the cork gasket, or should I just soak one side of the gasket in motor oil, or both...
Lovely Cruisers,
Engine bay shows power steering unit on the front right side, near the washer and battery.
This is different from 1980s images I have seen on Mudders rigs, where it is on the F.L. side.
So happens, my Canadian 1980 FJ 40 also is on the F.R. side, I had been wondering if it...
Bad with that rear flaking, but most elsewhere is cleaning up good. Anyhow, I really do like that idea of a soft top... Cheershttps://forum.ih8mud.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=604870&stc=1&d=1330388299
Thanks Steve,
Most of the frame has been explored with my putty knives and scrapers, and I think you are right that the tub must come off to do the frame up good. There are other traditional areas of concern in the back, such as replacing the rear shackle plates and likely also the rear tube...
The welded sides and back are off. I intend to reconfigure the plate steel tub to accept stock sides and top.
Considering limiting it to a 3/4 body removal. Do you think that cowardly? Ought I go for a full body removal with all the extra work it entails, even though it is not of...
Well, here is another attempt at some images,https://forum.ih8mud.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=603968&stc=1&d=1330190640https://forum.ih8mud.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=603967&stc=1&d=1330190640
Looking forward to meeting you. Perhaps by spring I will be actually 'building' this thing.
Meanwhile, the cutting, cleaning and considering continues...https://forum.ih8mud.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=603962&stc=1&d=1330190102
Would like to join some time, just not mobile yet. The cruiser is coming along good in my frigid shop. Got to start welding stuff up outside soon... or pull up the rough plank floor so I can grind and weld inside...humm
All the best with your meeting, hope I can get some parts from you folk...
