Nothing is fool proof, but ONE of the things I use is a Flaming River battery cutoff from the battery to the starter. This particular one has a padlock to lock the on/off. Not fool proof…and one of the things I use.

I ‘may’ do similar…I probably won’t, mainly due to the cost AND the fact that I fully rebuilt my 2f in 2018, but still may do so. Very interested in how this goes for...
That gooey stuff is probably only on one side. Off the top of my head I would spray something on the opposite side & then hit it with compressed air.
Maybe Simple Green, even carb cleaner?? EDIT: Vinegar would probably work also.
Well, it has worked for me, so I guess it does make sense. For some reason I thought it best to leave some room in order to allow the gasoline to expand.
RotoPax said to fill it all the way to the top…and it has been leak free. Over a year now and at least one on top 365.

@Spike Strip I’m not saying this Wix is a bad filter, in fact after reading your post I’m going to order a couple…I too like the fact that it’s metal & not plastic…BUT that Wix part # for me comes up as made in China on Amazon.
I will be the 1st to admit that I do not really know the answer to this conundrum…but I do remember reading on MUD that ‘someone’ on this forum was extremely confident that mixing the grease was NOT a problem.
