Thanks all. I've started using heavier oil while I figure this out; can't really tell yet if it's helping. I'm open to suggestions on which oil to use. I was using Quaker State Defy, 10W-40, but can't find it anymore. My mechanic would do the valve stem seal replacement, but he doesn't have the...
I have a '97 FZJ80, with about 210K miles, and runs beautifully. However, I'm having to add a quart of oil at least every 100 miles. There are no leaks, the spark plugs are clean and dry, and it has a new PCV valve. Mechanic did a compression test and a leak down test, both came out almost...
I guess maybe I'll be a guinea pig on the one I'm getting, the NPW. The idea of having an OEM sent to my destination point is brilliant, but I won't be there long enough to allow for shipping. If price means anything, this one is priced about the same as the Aisin, and also has a lifetime...
Noticed wetness under my water pump today, and I was planning a road trip this Sunday. I drive a '97 TLC, with 157,000 on the odo. My guess is that it's time to replace the water pump.
I don't have time to get an OEM part because Toyota would have to order one and it wouldn't get here till next...
It just occurred to me recently that my '97 FZJ80, with 150K miles, still has the original shocks. I say it "occurred" to me because there is no empirical evidence that they are old and bad, i.e. the ride to me seems fine. I've decided to go ahead and buy some new ones (OEM) anyway, but now I'm...
Where you located? I have an '85 FJ60 I need to sell. Pretty rough; been rolled, but still runs strong. While body is not pretty, drive train and chassis are straight and good. Something broke in the front axle recently, so I parked it, but now ready to give it up. Don't want to mess with...
Juggernaut, good point about swapping out the whole deal. Hadn't considered that. The Fairey works, but sometimes it's really hard to get it into or out of OD; in fact, a friend broke the stick by forcing it. Any idea what kind of repair that entails?
Inkpot, it's my oldest and third Cruiser; my DD is a '94 FZJ80, and my wife's is a '97. I just don't want to put the money into it anymore, especially considering it's been rolled, and every year it takes more time and money to tweak this or that in order to pass Texas' safety inspection, not to...
Well, it's time to sell or part out my '85 FJ60. It's had about five lives, including being rolled, salvaged, and then added another 30K miles; it now has 305K, engine is still strong, but the front axle is shot, and not worth repairing. Before I get rid of it, I want to remove the Fairey...
I just had the head gasket replaced on my '94 Cruiser, which included machining the head. Am I not hearing things, or was something done in the process that has now made the engine quieter? It is now quieter than my '97 Cruiser. I'm just curious what might have happened to make it quieter.
Thanks
After some searching around, I found that the rear mounted ring on Monteros is called a Lunette Ring, and they ain't cheap!
So first question is solved, but I still need to know if those that come on Monteros will fit the rear bumper of the FJ80.
I've noticed on some of the older Monteros a heavy duty ring on the rear bumper. Two questions:
1. What is the proper name for this ring?
2. They seem to have the same bolt pattern that FJ80's have for pintle hooks. Anyone know if the Montero ring will fit on an FJ80?
Thanks!
I just found my old Bass Cannon (100W subwoofer) from my FJ60 from several years ago, and want to install it on my '94 FZJ80. The original instructions are to intercept the negative wire from both the right and left speakers, and connect these to the two wires on the Cannon. Can anyone advise me...
