Can anyone with knowledge elaborate on the differences; pros, cons of the differences between a 3B motor and a 3B II?

3BII has the rotary injection pump, the other has an inline pump.
3BII is painted orange, the other blue(or maybe its the other way round).

Im sure there are other differences, including HP.
IMO the differences are barely worth worrying about.
Inline pumps are half the price to rebuild and generally last longer.

Not to mention that inline pump is generally easier to tune for more fuel....

Most 3B's had a inline pump, but some were fitted with a rotary pump, such as the JDM BJ61 from as early as 1982/10.

The main differences of the 3BII are the roller cam, and timing gear driven vacuum pump.

Others are a 10 stud exhaust manifold bolt pattern (the same as the B, 11B and 14B of the same era), a 8 bolt flywheel/crankshaft, also the rocker cover is secured by 6 studs/nuts around the outer edge.

Im sure theres more.

So what about adding a turbo? Seems like what I'm hearing is that the manifold off a 3B won't bolt up to a 3B II? So does anyone even make a manifold with a turbo flange? Will a 13B-T manifold work? The 3B II seems like an obscure motor? I also have heard better things about inline injection pumps vs. rotary, but can anyone expand on this?

i have adapter plates for the 3bII to 3B manifolds. i made up 6 of them for this purpose.
cheers

AXT makes manifolds for both 3B manifold bolt patterns, 8 & 10 bolt.

Toyota 3B Landcruiser 3.4 Turbocharger Systems / Turbo Kits

The (1)3B(-T) manifold changed in 1988 or 1989 to the 10 bolt pattern, which would be I guess the time that the (1)3B(-T) changed to a (1)3B(-T)-II.

Hate to drag up an old thread, but I'm confused...

I have a JDM BJ73 with a 3B, I think. The P.O. said it was a 3B II. It has the rotary pump. But it is painted gray (not blue or orange) and the Rocker cover is the older "round bumpy" style like on a 3B or 2F, not the more square one with ridges like a 14BT.

It looks to me like this is a 3B which for some reason has a rotary pump, and that it's not a 3B II. I've heard that some JDM 3Bs had a rotary pump. So I'm saying this is a 3B, not a 3B II. Would you guys concur?

I'm starting to make some plans for this engine, and need to know definitively what I'm starting out with!

the older JDM 3Bs can have the rotory pump and NOT be the 3B II. look at the exhaust manifild and you will be able to tell...

Thanks, Wayne...

Another stupid question: what are the differences in the exhaust manifold I should look for? I've tried searching, but haven't found any details about the differences....

Thanks again
