The dash in my stock rig has recently started to crack badly in a few places and from what I've read, it appears that new dashes can no longer be purchased. Rather than source a dash from a parted rig that may crack soon, I am going to attempt the reupholstery myself. I am thinking if doing something a little bit unique and using a exotic eather:

Ostrich would be soft and pliable, so that is the tentative direction that I'll be going right now. My questions are as follows:
1) Has anyone attempted something like this in the past with leather or any other material?
2) What is the best adhesive to use? I don't want to use the wrong stuff and have it seep through the leather and leave a stain
3) Do I need to heat and peel the brown dash covering off prior to recovering or can I just apply it over the cracking dash?
This will probably be a lengthy process for me, but I will document it as best as I can... please feel free to chime in with any pointers.
