Definitive led thread for 80s
I may have gone a little overboard with the LEDs but some like their 80 to look like a 7-11 in Reno.

The white gauges are from whitegauges.net...they are vinyl overlays
I changed the keyring to blue as well as the floor shift indicator. These are both type 74 bulbs and can be pulled out of the socket and replaced with LEDs.
You can't see the glovebox but I chose to put in a 3LED white type 74 in there. The vanity lights are also LED now.
before with green and after with blue

These are the switches:
PWR and 2nd are LEDs that can be resoldered with a little work. I chose to make the PWR blue and the 2nd red.
The Defrost is two type B bulbs, one with an amber condom and the other white. These were swapped out for a red and blue LED.
The security light is a single red led...I didn't change this one but it would be simple enough to do.
I will update this for the center diff lock but I assume it is a type B

more switches:
The hazard is a single white type B
The rear heat is a type B with two 3mm LEDs
The antenna up/down is the only odd bulb and it is a type A (8mm vs 9mm)

Cigarette lighter ring:
This is a modified type B bulb removed from the twist socket and soldered into the prongs. I used a blue LED for the ultimate pimp look.

LED JDM side markers for that extra flair!
The 2nd light mod to the doors shows the difference between incandescent and LED in one pic.

Diode 101....
LEDs are diodes and are sensitive to polarity (they will only work one way unlike the bulbs you are replacing). Check the LEDs before removing them from the circuit boards. A few were marked + or - but were not correct.
Break out your handy meter and set the dial to....

P I M P
now your 80 looks like a 7-11 in Reno at midnight!
I used white LEDs for all the indicator lights of the instrument panel and the reds seem washed out. The pink seatbelt light and brake light are a little ghey looking. I may replace these with red LEDs but I haven't tried that yet.
added an extra OE dome for fun with another 48led array.

How long did said project take you?
I mean actual hours or days?
I still say your truck is at least 10 miles an hour faster than everybody else because of these.
Link added to this thread in the FAQ under the Bling chapter.
Nicely done root.

It's gotta be faster due to the increased amount of light somehow giving him something closer to the speed of light? Like an LED Turbo effect.
Wow. And I was all happy with myself for replacing all the domes, doors and map light with LEDs. I'm not worthy.
Amazing work. I'm marking this page for later reference.
BTW, you get four pimps, too. Combine this with that fly new leather from AATLAS1X, and you may create a new pimp paradigm.

Very nice! It looks like one of those 20th century modernized interior (Can't think of a better title). 7-11 Reno sounds better . How long did it take ya to do all that? Can't tell from the picture but looks like you didn't mess with the shifter lights (P, R, N, D, 2, 1). I might do some/few of these myself as well.

Researching the bulb types and LED replacements took the longest time. Installation took a few afternoons over the weekend. Approximately 5 hours or so. I read all the threads on rods and cones and most say that the blue spectrum is just between the shift. This could cause fatigue at night. I looked into production cars/trucks and many have blue instrument lights. The most common seems to be the aqua blue and these are available if someone wanted to try it. I didn't take the radio apart because it will be replaced eventually. The lights are not that bright at night and I have grown accustom to it. The stock lights always looked lethargic to me and I couldn't even see the heater lights at times. The blue light you see in the clock is the bulb pulled up from the ash tray. I was hoping it would wash out the green numbers but it didn't. I'll source a blue clock and replace the stock one soon.
The floor shifter lights are blue.

Looks just like the Vegas strip.
Can you still dim the lights though?

The dimmer is still operational. The LEDs on the heater are 2 stage, bright for day, and not so bright for night operation.
