Well guys I have been reading and learning for months about my fj-80 and now its time I post up. Thanks for all the info.

My wife drives the 1991 Fj80 and is all the time complaining about the power. As everyone knows its not a tire burner. We sold her 04 5.6 Expedition last summer and she was use to that power. anyway She does not want a newer cruiser(try to talk her into it) she is very fond of the 80. Long story short she is all about me doing an engine swap(cool wife). I have been thinking about possible idea and the one I keep coming back too( diehard toyota guys cover your eyes) is a 2004-06 vortec 5300 or 6000 series and a 4l60E tranny. T-case is still a question mark but most likely a part time something.
I guess my question to all you 80 guys what t-case would you guys run(atlas not a chose, I don't even get to run that in my rockcrawler.) Feel free to give any input or ideas. I'm not tied to anything yet.

Must say, this is not your prototypical first post :D. Don't have any specific advise for you, but the most extensively documented engine swap to date here is Kirk's V8 LT-1 swap. It's a good read in case you haven't come across it yet, and may give you a better idea of what you're in for.

Just to note. It will be much cheaper to find a 93-97 cruiser with a 1FZE engine and put a blower on it than to do the swap. If you still decide to go the swap route, I think you are on the right track using a SBC and GM tranny.

Diesel!

Welcome!

advance adapters makes a t-case adapter for your t-case to keep, I would not swap it because to find an offset t-case stronger then the one you already have would most likely be an atlas, plus the more you can keep the less money you have to spend on your conversion.. I do agree with the post above on how it would be cheaper to find a 95 or newer and throw a blower on it. Plus you can keep the cruise control that way...

Personally i'd go with the ls2 but same tranny.... better motor from the general in my opinion but either of the two you put down would be fine.

not quite sure about this because he'd have to sell the 91 and buy a more expensive 93-97 + transfer title and sales taxes.... then the blower costs about $3500 i believe?? I might be wrong on that one
plus with the V8 you get the great exhaust. I'm going to do an engine swap in the future but i'm stuck between diesel or a V8

If you do diesel instead of gas what would be your choice in the engine? I thought about taking the 3f out of mine and running a cummins diesel. I've converted a 83' f350 to cummins,a 93 suburban to cummins, and countless gas conversions.

Proffits is using a 4BTA with a 4l60 if memory serves.
look for grease cruiser.
There is a an incomplete write up for a td6 in the hardcore section.
Look around.

grease uses built 700r4 trans with 91-94 tcase with the marks adapter, the 4bt will give you a litle more torque then the stocker, more if you tweak it.. The GM 7.5 tends to be a popular conversion too due to the over abundence of them and the aftermarket upgrades..

Here's something to think about.

I'm in the middle of getting parts and finding a 5.3/4l60 for my swap. For a tcase, I'm going with one from a late model FJ60. This is because of 2 reasons, I want part time 4wd and cost. The HF2A adapter is $1,380 and the part time kit is $830 plus install. So about $2,300. I can get a FJ60 tcase, have it rebuilt, and get adapters for about $1,400.

HTH,

id give some consideration to junkyard turboing the I6 already in there.....

for less than the cost of the adapter you can be boosted
