Got a guy trying to sell me this for $5000 claiming it's a Swiss 40 (never came with cat, smog crap, or roll bar, or tacho in miles). Funny thing is he's in Greece and can't show me it beforehand, but will ship it on his dime.

Who really owns this? Beige original with gold repaint.

This is defenitly a scam. You see it here all the time. Owner has moved abroad and does not want to take his car. The car is in storage and will be shipped to you when you put down a down payment at a deposit company. These guys go to extreme lengts to make it look legit. They even set up a bogus company where they claim the car is stored. Once you transfer the money you don't hear a thing or you get a message there is some hold up at customs and you need to pay a customs fee. This is also bogus. If you want to get your money back the deposit company is fake and there is no one to be found to get it back.

Don't fall for this trick.

Scam, anytime they will not let you look at it and ship it for free is a scam. While I bought my 1962 off ebay without looking at it, I did talk to the guy on the phone and the option to look at it in person was available.

Spam sometimes I love it. I was selling an old jeep engine on craigslist, and someone emailed me offering to buy it. But they wanted to pay for it with cashiers check and wanted to pay for it right away because they were in a hurry to get it. They needed it as a wedding gift and wanted to have it shipped to them so they would have time to wrap it and take it to the wedding. Made me laugh the thought of wrapping a straight six for a wedding.

Kinda looks like a north american shaped license plate on there...not the wide skinny ones that I think most euro countries have?

I was looking into buying a small tractor a few years back, 3/4's of the ads were similar scams, tractor is in bf nowhere, but they'll ship to you for free.

#J40's have a larger narror licence plate at the back so it can be EU.
Most of the time they just use some pictures from an add in an other country.

Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD

Look at the background. The house is absolutely not Greek. And is that a 4Runner there?
The pictures scream US FJ40 to me.

Run away fast!

It's clean enough......search the rebuilder's pages (CCoT type places) and see if there's one that they have put out recently.

Ask the seller for the VIN #!!

Well the first problem I see, is that that is a 79+ and it does in fact have a rollbar.

What year is he claiming?

Has to be a scam. A cruiser that nice would sell for more than 5k even in this market easily.
