I am posting a thread here in the 100-series section to gauge interest in having Robbie (AKA powderpig, legendary Landcruiser mechanic formerly with Slee) down in the SoCal area (LA/OC/Riverside/surrounding counties/San Diego, and anybody who wants to drive in from elsewhere) to work his magic on our rigs. I have emailed Robbie about coming down to do some work on my rig, but right now 2 obstacles remain:

1. Not enough people- it's just me and possibly one other person in the LA area at this time. We need more people to sign up in the LA/OC area to make this feasible.

2. Both myself and the other person who are interested in Robbie's work in this area live in apartment buildings with no place to work. Additionally, I live in a small 1 bedroom apartment, and though I'd be happy to host Robbie there, for his comfort and ease of work, it would be preferable to have someone with a house and a driveway/garage to host him.

Timeframe-wise, I believe Robbie will be starting on the 5+ Northern Cali. rigs toward the end of October, and he needs to head back by the 3rd week of December, so he'd probably try to work us in within that window.

I am looking to see if there is anyone else who may want to take advantage of the rare opportunity of having Robbie work on their rigs while he is in the SoCal area. Please reply to this message only if you are interested for sure- we need definite jobs for this to happen and to keep Robbie's travel costs down.

Also, please let me know if you have a house with driveway / garage for Robbie to stay in / work from.

If you need more information, please use the EMAIL link to contact me, NOT PM, as my PM box always seems to be full.

I've received some PMs, so just to clarify: If you'd like more information, just click on my username and use the "Send email to alaskacruiser" link to contact me instead of the "Send private message to alaskacruiser" link. I need email contact so that I can reply with the attachments I have. Sorry if this was not clear.

bump for the TGIFers

Being that I'm new here and not familiar with Robbie's work, what exactly does he specialize in, and what kind of work is being offered here?

TheFuzz- Robbie is considered by many on the forums to be one of the best Landcruiser mechanics out there. He can tackle anything from axle regearing to ARB installs to engine rebuilds. Formerly with Slee, he now works for himself.

Here's a link to some posts from him in the 100-series section to give you an exmaple of some of the online advice he's offered here:

It appears you reside in CO- I believe Robbie is based there. I assume you're not posting in this thread because you're interested in his services here in SoCal?

Thanks for the info. I actually thought there was a slight chance I'd be in Oceanside within the next week or two. But, those plans fell through. That being said, if Robbie is based right here in CO, I might look him up locally. Thanks!

Just to reiterate:

Robbie's been wrenching longer than some of us have been alive.

Robbie knows LC (specifically the 1 FZ-FE, but others as well) engines like men know women's panties (Robbie probably knows them too).

Robbie can smell a bad engine. In fact, he can probably diagnose a bad engine just by listening to it while he is directing traffic on the Little Sluice on the Rubicon.

Seriously, Robbie is worth every cent you pay him. He will make sure your LC runs forever (well, at least for the 100K miles after he touches it).

And, he is a kind, intelligent, well-spoken, cultured, worldly, classical mechanic--the kind you learn from when you talk to him about about the best sushi west of the Front Range or the coldest ascent he's ever made....this is the dude.

Oh yeah, he is also the Tech Editor of Toyota Trails.

I feel very fortunate to live in CO...lots of big-name cruiser guys around here!

OK, guys, one last post to see if there's any new interest before I contact members who've expressed interest and try to get a count of how many are ready to go through with it.

Hello Everyone,

Time to wrap this up and see what Robbie thinks about coming down to SoCal!

Robbie has contacted me and indicated that, if he comes to SoCal, it will be for 2 weeks after Thanksgiving weekend, so let's say approximately 12/1/10 - 12/14/10.

The following members have expressed potential interest in having work done by Robbie if/when he visits the SoCal area:

1. dallen341 (Don)
2. NLXTACY (Joey)
3. Fireguy (Scot)
4. mattafact (Matt)
5. KimoSabe (Anmer)
6. CappyKD (Kirk)
7. AdventureBuddies (Markus)
8. Brentbba (Brent)
9. fzjconvert (David)
10. adalnay (Arvin)
11. SoCal80 (Steve)
12. 1FZj80 (Mark)
13. chrisc16 (Chris)
14. fjc8871 (Bruno)
15. mobi-arc (Scott)

Now here's what we need to get things going:

Each user listed above (and any new users interested) please post in this thread (please do not PM me- you can email me if you have to) and indicate:

1. Interest and work to be done:
a) Interested / Not interested (If you're not interested, please respond to confirm you're not interested)
b)If interested, provide a quick summary of work to be done (e.g., HG PM, Axle Regear, etc.)

2. Hosting Robbie and providing Workspace:
Please indicate whether you can host Robbie (preferably in a house) and/or provide him with a workspace (preferably a garage or driveway) for a few rigs (he can schedule the rigs so that there are a limited number there at one time). As I mentioned earlier, I live in a small apartment with no workspace, so I'm trying to find someone who can host Robbie, preferably in a house with a guest room, and provide him with a driveway/garage to work out of. This is pretty important, as emphasized below.

IMPORTANT:
- If we do not have a host for Robbie, then all interested parties will likely have to pony up for putting him up somewhere while he's here.

- If we do not have a workspace for Robbie, then we will need to figure that one out (any suggestions?)
