I just received a set of Ziploc Weather Shield plastic containers. I got two large containers:

And two small containers:

Here's how I first envisioned using them:
1.webp

But they could also be used like this:
2.webp

Or even this:
3.webp

Without a cooler, there is enough room to carry an entire second set of containers
2 sets.webp

And then, with the cooler:

I think I'm going to buy a third large container (shown through the magic of the Paint app):
3 big.webp

Which would still work with the cooler (Paint magic again):

Actually, I think this is how I'd stack them (yeap, Paint again).

The weather seal works pretty well for the price. Had six on the roof when we went of vacation earlier this year. No leaks from the rain we ran into, no dust, etc.

That's good to know. I'd like to be able to leave them at the campsite when I'm riding, and not worry about a scattered shower. I wonder if they're raccoon-proof?

Perhaps I should also say that I'm not an expedition person (yet, anyway). Right now I'm going camping 2-3 times a year, usually at a National Forest campsite for about 3 days at a time. I bought these containers in anticipation of more and/or longer trips.

I've put weather stripping on Rubbermaid Roughneck totes, then held the tops down with bungee cords. Keeps the dust and water out when travelling gravel roads.

They are durable enough. I backed over one, and yes, it shattered. But in normal use over a two week trip, no failures. For $16 a piece, I can't complain.

I actually like apple boxes best. Free, easy to replace and they maximize the amount of storage for the space used. With a garbage bag liner they are also dust proof. The size doesn't lend itself to holding more than one person can carry which is a plus IMHO. True they are subject to damage from dew or rain but we keep our stuff inside the truck at night because affordable critter proof boxes are hard to find.

Hi all,

I like the see-through feature of these Zip-Loc Weatherseal boxes but they do not look very durable in comparison to a Rubbermaid "action packer" type thick flexible storage box. But if they are super cheap might be worth a shot.

Regards,

Alan

I got the set of four containers for $36.90, with free shipping to my local Walmart.

I've been using a single clear box like those for 10 years now for my "kitchen" stuff. So all my plates, silverware, etc are in it. It's so helpful to have clear sides and be able to see what's inside instead of pulling out most things to get one thing out. Mine has yet to break or crack, but I'm pretty careful with it. Just like the guy above, I camp 3-4 times a year or so.

All my other boxes are rubbermade bins, without any seal, but they've always been inside whichever SUV I'm in, and they have held up alright. I can appreciate really good/tough boxes, but sometimes I think that these simple boxes work well if you realize they're not going to last forever, but they'll last as long as you take care of them.

Oh, and it has rained on them a few times, and the water accumulates on the top, but it doesn't get wet inside. But like I said, I've never driven with them out in the elements.

I've also had a Space Case (from Australia) for many years that I got to run on the roof of my 80. The weight of it, awkwardness of getting it up on the roof and packing it drove me away from even using it. It's been my kids toy bin for the past 5 years. hahaha

Those look very similar to these ones I got from The Container Store.

I use em inside the truck for dry food, camp gear and camp kitchen stuff. I envisioned having 4 Wolfpack boxes at first, but saw these with the same dimensions for a third of the price so went for it. They work fine. Stackable, clear lid and/or box, sturdy enough for me, cheap, scent proof. Got 2 30 qts and 2 46qts
