Just wanted to show the strut on the swing out and say that the High lift jack does go on the bolt thru the screw. It was a tight fit on mine.

backup camera - on the cheap
Well a few years ago I found this backup camera on discount for 60 bucks so I bought it out of wonder. Well I ran it on a tacoma for a while and it has been sitting in the garage for almost a year collecting dust so I thought I would give it go on the cruiser.
It is a wireless set up so install was a snap.
First I removed the license plate wings, via cutting them off to make the camera as small as I could.
Then I drilled a small hole just large enough for wires to pass into . Then I pulled the license plate light out and tapped into it for power.
I placed it so I could see around the spare tire and it could be adjusted as needed.
I think it looks pretty good and I used a bracket + double sided tape so I can adjust it if needed.
here is the inside shot.
Next step will be hard mounting the inside.....

yes , i think it might be blocked , I have used double sided tape for now to hold it in place. I am going to mount the ladder this weekend to see if it gets in the way and will adjust. I am also thinking I might mount a work light up high and put the camera right below it.

Well after some lengthy research and back and forth I finally decided on replacing my BFG AT tires with good year Duratrac 285 75 16. I cant tell you how many tire posts I have read , everything from size to type to price. I think they look great and seem to ride better then my old BFG AT.
I really wanted to go larger but 315 was out of the question for me, just to many negatives and cost for me to do that right now. I really liked the 295 but tire choice and availability just didn't cut it. I did not want to need a new tire and have to wait a day for someone to get one in stock or find a spare. So I stuck with the 285 / 75 / 16. I already had a spare that size so it would keep my cost down a little. I am glad I went ahead and replace all tires , after pulling the front BFG ATs off which came on the truck one of the tires had damage from wheeling on the inside side wall. I was headed to failure.
Check your inside side walls ever once in a while if you do any wheeling.
As for type of tire I went back and forth on just getting the tires from Pep Boys that Dakota MT which is made by Cooper. On this tire you can get buy 4 get one free which you cant beat that price. I think it is a great budget tire , but I don't like Pep boys and have never gotten great service nor balancing from them on larger tires. Also I wanted something that was more of a cross between AT and MT. But it needed to handle well in the MUD because I seem to find it on every trial I go on. Also mine is a DD and noise was a concern with more of an MT. I looked at everything in this category !!!!! Finally picked the Goodyear DuraTrac for availability , durability and tread pattern. It is what I would consider a well proven tire for performance and mileage. .. now the game of pricing.....

Now for pricing , someone needs to explain to everyone and me the game ! I am not sure I got it right but what a bunch of crap. If you ever pay retail for tires you must be a fool or hard up. I started watching and searching pricing for the last 3 months and I was very surprised at how the price will fluctuate with posted price and rebates. It seems that many offers end , then there is a week gap and then new offers may be posted but for different brands / tires. Everyone says they price match , some actually check , some do not. This may depend on the person you are dealing with at the store when you call. I think if I had waited longer I could have gotten a better deal but I wanted to stay with a shop local to me so I would not have to drive all over just to get anything addressed. like a re balance. I am sure to knock off tire weights while wheeling. I tried reading everyone's tire price threads and what they paid but this seems to very also by region and year, knowing someone at the shop (friends or friends) discount for local groups, blah, blah blah. I watched prices slowly go up on this tire over the last 3 months from around $219 a tire now up to $264 a tire not installed.

ARB - roller floor with Drawer
Well I hope the
doesn't get mad at me on this one. I pulled the trigger on the ARB roller floor + small drawer to use for my Frig slide. I had to ditch my home made one and have been looking for something better. I only wanted something on one side for now and I can add to it later if the need comes up. I also did not want my frig to sit any higher then It needed to, but has application also when I am not carrying the frig.
I could not find any pictures on line of anyone mounting this system only in a 100s LC. I was able to order the system from a supporting vendor.

They are on sale 10% off + shipping to my door for around $560. I know its not cheap , but wanted something that is going to have quality, longevity and the right size.. Again that is for one small drawer with a flat top frig roller on top. The Aussies seem to have tons of options and dealers...

So I had been looking for a new frig slide solutions and after looking and reading many threads on the topic , I went with the ARB Floor roller (Outback Solutions). This is not the cheapest out there but I wanted something with a flat top that was not really high up. This unit is around 5 1/2 inches high with a small drawer under the slide. I have enough trouble picking up a fully loaded fig as it is full of beer. Anyway, I also went with ARB because of the reputation of having great products and I could get one thru a supporting vendor. I also liked the fact that they are modular incase I want to change or add something later. I also wanted something that would allow me to continue to use one of my third row seats on occasion. So I had a pretty specific list of items and the ARB Roller Floor just seem to fit them.
So I ordered the drawer and began doing some more reading. I soon realized I had ordered the smaller unit and could have gone with the longer one. But after I thought about it and now that I have it installed I am happy with my choice. The pros are that the unit can fit more applications in the smaller size so moving it to another platform or selling it would be easy. I also have 4 inches behind the unit where I normally place larger bulky items such as water and or a pop up canopy. I also have plenty of room for the third room seat to be used.
Ok ok already you want pictures..... The package looked like it had seen some rough times. when I picked up the box and carried it to the garage I could hear loose nuts and bolts. The package seemed to be well packaged
except for the bag of bolts and washers inside the drawer.
I quickly skimmed the directions and realized I was too impatient to read all that stuff and for the most part the bolts were there to bolt together two drawers and I would not need some of that. I did however notice... That the plastic trim part was cracked already...
Now this is not a functional peace but is kind of cheap.
In the directions for some applications the trim at the bottom of this is cut off. For me I just needed to place the correct risers on the front bottom pad to bring the lip up with the rear trim plate. Since I got the shorter drawer, I also had to move the center plate on the frame back one notch so this brace would line up with the bolt. This just required me to take off 4 bolts and slide the brace part down and retightens. Then I had to remove the plastic trim part on the rear floor and take out one bolt to replace with a new longer bolt.Then place the bolts in and tighten down.
This thing is a snap to put in and take out. I could have this installed / taken out in less then 5 minutes.
I still need to attach my air line track tie downs for the frig.
So far there is no notice or rattle from the unit. The only thing I wished was that the top slide unit slide out a little further.
