jeez, pretty touchy on a thread hijack...:flipoff2::lol:

but i do agree a lot of radio specific and non specific talk in both our threads that could be consolidated, ahh the MUD way....:lol:

That's kinda trick - my 8900 is more out in the open:

I'm pleased to report that the mount survived the killer washboards at Death Valley last week. Thumbs up.

How are you attaching the Mic?

I just picked up an FT-7800 used and I'm thinking I'd like to mount it like this. But I don't think I'd like the Mic cord hanging in front of the windshield all the time.

Mic cord (RJ-11 phone cord) comes out the remote head, goes all the way to the center console to a RJ-11 coupler. The mic is plugged into this coupler.

???

What will get me a ticket? Having the headunit suction cupped to the windshield?

Isn't that why they sell bean bags for GPS and the like to sit on top of your dashboard? Something about windshield mounted devices hinder your vision or some such thing in that state.

Yep - if it's not in the lower left corner of the windshield, it'll get you a ticket. At least that's the law. I see more GPS units suction cupped right in the middle than in the lower left corner from my personal observations in PRK (Peoples Republik of Kalifornia). Hell, at least the inept legislature got around to at least allowing that! Used to be that NO such mounting with suction cups, etc. were allowed. IIRC it's even legislated where the toll road transponder can legally be afixed to your windshield...same damn place as the suction cup GPS mounts!

Likely ticket only if you get pulled over for something else like speeding, talking on your cellphone or scratching your... :censor: , then they might write you up for the improper placement of your GPS too. Don't know if it's a moving violation with a fine or just a fix it ticket.

Remember, we're broke and need all the revenue we can get. If you ever do visit, bring your own water too! We're short on that also! :flipoff2:

Got it. Well, I don't plan on going to California anytime soon. I haven't had any issues here in New York...and I don't expect I ever will.
