[QUOTE="RMP&O,

Anybody following along!?

Cheers[/QUOTE]

Absolutely.
I am planning a trip down the Baja and ferry over to mainland for 2020. May get further south into some of Central America as well.

Thanks guys!

I actually just edited in a four minute video to page one from north of Scorpion Bay.

Making some good progress recently on the Baja video production. Might have something to show off soon. ;)

Cheers

Well here it is, part one of the three part series I am doing on the trip. Obviously this is Baja!

My laptop has really been cooperating lately to finish this up. I also decided not to spend to much time being OCD with the music or the video in general.

I hope you enjoy it!!

Cheers

So about the build and the Cruiser.

I have built a lot of trucks in the past. Usually though they get some test time before a big trip and any issues or quirks worked out. I had so much going on leading up to this trip and the build was rather big on the truck that I really had no time to test the Cruiser before I left Wyoming. When I got to California I went to Valley Hybrids, there both e-lockers got installed and I had the whole front end torn apart and the diff out of the truck. New brakes went on all around too. Just a whole bunch of last minute stuff was done in their shop. Big thanks to @orangefj45 for that and the use of the shop and lift. I worked pretty hard on the truck there for like 4-days and then I just jumped in it and split, again with no test time.

By the time we got to Guanajuato we had put 4,000 or so miles on the truck and a lot of those were hard miles in Baja. The Cruiser was performing well with no issues at all. So I was happy about that but also feeling good in my ability since none of my work on the truck was causing issues or problems. Confidence is a good thing when you are on a trip like this.

I did have some things I wanted to do to the truck before we continued. Most of that parts wise I needed to get sent from the USA to Guanajuato. I bought the parts, like rear air bag kit and had them shipped to a buddy in the USA who would then ship the parts to me in Mexico. The truck was actually handling the weight well all things considered. I had OME heavies in the rear, the heaviest you can buy. My Tacoma for these trips would weight 6,000lbs and you could really feel it. Without air bags in the rear is was not happy at all even after a set of custom made Deaver springs for the weight. The Cruiser was doing much better and I didn't have air bags. I wanted to put some in though just to help the rear springs and give me a little control back there too.

On top of this we started thinking we wanted to buy a cheap little trailer or build one ourselves. We just had to much gear and everything would be so much easier if we had a trailer, besides some driving that is.

The next video I am finishing up and working on is of the truck. Four trips outside the USA in Toyotas for me in three different trucks. All of them set up by me. So it has been a good learning experience, I think I have it dialed and could build any truck now set up just right for these kinds of trips. Any ways, there is a lot to doing these kinds of trips and having the right truck set up for the individuals uses makes all the difference in the world. I always consider every build to be different and in my world there is no such thing as "cookie cutter".

Cheers

Great thread!

I've done Colorado to Chiapas in a Toyota RV. Guanajuato is such an awesome city... Hoping to make an excursion down in my 100 in the next couple years.

Any updates?

Ya know I just got really busy I have not found the time to sit down and continue this.

I do have a video mostly done that highlights the Cruiser. Lots of more footage through Mexico and Central America as well. Just not the time to put it up here with the story that goes with it.

Cheers

Epic trip, thanks for sharing!

What mpg are you getting? I know we don't buy these trucks for fuel economy but I'm building my LC for overland travel and was curious about what to expect in a fully built and loaded truck.

Anyone try to mess with the cruiser while down their? (theft, vandalism ) Or did everyone pretty much leave it alone?

No sir.

In three trips to Panama and back covering more than 30,000 miles and over 14 months my truck and stuff was never messed with.

Average 10-14mpg.

I never finished the videos for this trip. It was just to much work and time sink for me. I am not proficient at video editing. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I did slap this one together of the truck. it doesn’t have much sound, no music, no titles, no info. It is just video of the Cruiser, some good video though!

The 100 was a great choice of vehicle for the trip. Only had one minor issues on the whole trip and I was prepared to fix it.

Cheers

I guess here is another video I have up on YT covering the 100.

Cheers

Glad you are posting here again. Thanks for sharing your trip.

Hey no worries, I thought I had actually finished out the thread here but that must have been on ExPo.

I will upload some more videos and pics. Not sure how much typing I feel like doing, we'll see!

So we hung around Guanajuato for four or five weeks. Roy grew up here, has lot's of family and friends here and there was lot's to see and do. The Morrill family (Roy's family) are outstanding people who treated me extremely well. His grandfather and mother who are in their late 80's have a large place in town where we stayed. In fact they own the only camp ground in Guanajuato so if you are ever there and camp at it, you are at the Morrill family property. I believe his grandfather was in construction and did well, his father is also in construction.

The family has a place out on a lake about 30 miles outside town. We went out there for a few days and tried to work on making videos. There is a sunken church in the lake so we also went and kayaked around it.

Roy and his dad are really into the outdoors. They rock climb, hike, mountaineer, deep caving, kayak, mountain bike and all that. There is some rock cliffs above the lake house his dad had set up some routes and anchors on. So we went and climbed those one day.

I had such a good time in Guanajuato, the town is super cool with all the history and tunnels. Great food, great people and lot's to do. I will upload a bunch more pics of this area with some videos right now.
