here's a pic of a 2F non clutch water pump pulley from my parts 75 FJ55(sandblasted and painted for the '72 buildup.

It 3" long give or take a 1/16"

Just checked Surfpig's '77 Pig...He's got the same double wide waterpump pulley.

that water pump pulley is a 2f variety, but is for the direct drive fans(circa 1/'75-8/'76), not the fan clutch. the F pulley should have a shorter dish before the front groove.

Something looks wierd with the harmonic balancer. seems to be a bit too far away from the timing cover to me.

Hm.

You might have a point there. Is that pulley pressed on far enough? Here's mine... It seems like there's numerous combinations out there, and I've added the p/s pump and changed the air pump pulley. I haven't had any alignment issues...

Cruiserbrett:

Going back to the SOR info, the 2F pump is 7/8" taller than the F pump, which would space my grooves forward by 7/8". Good.

However, not argueing here, but in your photo of the '73 Pig with factory air, the WP pulley APPEARS to put the groove centerlines out where I need them to be so that the forward one would pick up my 3FE pump, and it LOOKS farther forward than 7/8" (what I'm getting at: why would I not duplicate your setup, and merely find a 2-groove F pump pulley, like yours?).

I can't judge by looking at the photos, but if you're saying that your forward groove on your WP is narrow, and my 3FE pump needs a wide groove, and the 2F WP pulley I already have has a wide front groove, then the case is settled, your arguement is understood, and I need the 2F pump!

There is a dude that has sent me a photo of a balancer pulley setup just like yours, 3-groove with the BIG aft groove; in your opinion, would this work for me, with the 2F pump and pulley?

Depending on yours or others response(s), this will hopefully put this science project to bed and we can all move on...

Thanks Lil'John,
First pic is my setup, wide/narrow crank pulley, double wide waterpump pulley.
2nd pic shows different mounting flanges (hubs) and spacer...
last pic, 3 waterpumps. 2F in the middle, all about the same height...

I'll be an SOB. More choices.

SOR flatly shows a difference in the cast iron/aluminum WP heights at 7/8". That's why I figured a 2F pump with my pulley would move me forward 7/8". Maybe not!

But, if I used the spacer, I might be golden.

Pighead, I'd say that WP pulley with the wide/narrow grooves looks about the right height for me, but I need a wide/wide!

PM sent to you, Pighead.

I was figuring that in order to run the 3FE pump, you were going to have to swap on a 2 groove lower pulley of some sort(and run the belt on both the waterpump and crank pulley). 2F pulleys are easier to find IMO, and give the correct wide lower groove. match that with a 2F waterpump, and your 2F W/P pulley, and you have a factory matched setup. The 3FE pump bracket is designed for this setup, and would use the forward groove(just forward of your wide existing belt). The 3FE pump bracket is actually a carry over from non US 2F's, which had the PS pump located on the upper right side of the motor.

to answer the question in your 2rd paragraph, the forward groove in my pic is much narrower than the 2F forward groove, and the centerline of the groove is actually about 1/4" further aft than the double wide pulley arrangement, which would give you misalignment in the belts, and I am not sure if the 3FE pump groove could even accomodate the really narrow width of the forward F groove belt(which appears to be something like a 3/8" belt, as opposed to the 5/8" 2F belts.

Hope that clears some of this up. I went through this 3FE PS pump swap issue, and tried to find the best solution, and discovered while mocking it all up on an 2F motor(that I was using F pulleys and water pump on) that the 2F stuff I swapped off gave perfect pulley alignment, so i put all the 2F stuff back on.
