I've been casually looking to purchase another FJ40 for about 6 months. And the local Southern CA market is the worst I've ever seen it, to many people being told they've got the unicorn of the "rare" FJ40 sitting in their front yard........

So I've got the opportunity to take a drive North of the Bay Area for a 78, 116k original miles, original motor, original paint, (except a passenger fender repair), original headliner, original SoCal vehicle, passes CA smog, starts right up. Pretty much unmolested.
Small bit of rust on rear corners, and surface rust under the mat in the back.

Been in the same family for over 25 years, granddad passed away and the daughter is looking to sell it. She used to be a student of my Dads years ago, Super, great seller, and emotionally attached to her dads 40, (understandably) also educated on their value.

Problem areas, other than rust.....Passenger fender and hood has been repaired and repainted.....notice the difference between drivers and passenger side fenders and hood corners. Passenger is squared and Drivers is rounded.....

The original paint is in fantastic shape, as is the roof, but hood and passenger fender have a "close" matched color.

I sold an early Bronco a few years ago that went from here in GA to CA. It left hanging off the back of a transport like that and even though I had collected my $ it made me really nervous. BTW congrats on that 40.

Nice 40! One of my favorite colors. Looks like my first one I had in college back in the early 90s. I’m a mustard guy now. I saw this one posted, then about a month later it was posted again. I was really surprised no one had picked it up. My current 40 is a CA model and I was tempted to reach out. Glad you got it...now I don’t I have to think about it!

Time to break open the wallet
what products did you use on the paint?

I used some inexpensive Mequire's Cleaner Wax for now.....just a quick easy polish to see if the stock paint was holding up. I'll do the rest in the next few weeks. However, the hood and the passenger fender have been repainted, and not very well. I may get those redone in the future to match what's existing.
