Quite a few miles now with the aftermarket trim removed. Zero whistle. There is a bit more wind noise from that area than I would expect, and maybe more than with the trim installed, but the whistle is definitely gone.
That said.. I don't see a way to attach the factory rubber trim once the windshield is in place. There is an adhesive strip on the trim that according to the FSM goes behind the top edge of the windshield.. then a bit of a rubber edge that seems like it is to keep urethane from getting into the void above the windshield, and another longer flap to close up that void from the top. The tech that installed my windshield used too much urethane so it is all over that void space. And even if they didn't do that, I don't see how you'd get the strip firmly stuck to the back face of the windshield top edge.
The orange strip is backing for the adhesive that gets removed when attaching to the windshield before urethane and install.
