Just purchased a 2001 land cruiser, has some rust along the top of the windshield. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to address this and prevent it from spreading or is this going to need to be taken to a body shop?

That is looking like you have some cancer. IMO that tells me your windshield needs to come out and the rust needs to be dealt with by a body shop. I don’t know what the rest of your cruiser looks like so the money you have to spend to have this fixed may or may not be worth it.

Hello WookieMonst3r,
IMO, the windshield needs to come out.
A good body shop can remove all of the rust and prep the windshield opening for the windshield to be reinstalled.
Make sure they reinstall the windshield trim with rivets, not screws.
Also, make sure you find a reputable company to reinstall the windshield.
There are multiple threads about windshields being installed incorrectly.
Good luck.
Tom

Thanks for the feedback/info. the rest of the car is in relatively good shape and no major rust that I could find. Based off reading some other threads I'm guessing it's likely from a bad windshield replacement job. I'll have to call around and get some quotes, hopefully isn't too painful to get it done.

Yes! Totally worth repairing. I believe there was a gentleman on here not too long ago that had a rust problem similar or worse than yours and he took it to a place in Durango I believe? @2001LC ?

The rust you see, is half or less of a circle. It is 99.8% sure, rust is under the glass. This happens when windshield (WS), and installer nicks the paint.

If WS cracked of more than 6". Insurance will buy you a new one WS. Reputable companies like Safelite, will likely requires body-work before R&R windshield. They do for sure, if a crack from point of rust. So when you speak with insurance. Mention body work need to replace this very important safety device, the WS.

I've sent people to Rust Doctor 970-822-2805 (Jason) in Grand Junction. Make sure to mention to Jason; Paul in Denver (2001LC) referred you.
