Hi Folks

I'm located in New Westminster/Burnaby....I was wondering if you guys had any reccomendations for places in Vancouver/Lower Mainland for window tinting? My birthday is coming up in february and i've asked the wife for tint for my 1987 BJ-71

thanks

Alan

I've taken three vehicles to a small place in Port Moody that is inexpensive and do a good job.

Attention To Detail
3206 St Johns St, Port Moody, BC
(604) 461-8859

They are located about 50ft from Steve's (EBI Cruiser Parts) shop.

There Is A Man Doing Tinting In The Richmond Auto Mall, Right Next Door To The Little Convenience/snack Store

thank you guys.....I think i'll swing by the Auto Magic Detail Centre this weekend or next (Richmond automall).....I googled it and its about 30 mins from my place. I figure if they're doing some of the newer vehicles off the lot they can't be too shabby.

My rig is white, and I was hoping to get a mirror tint seen on many 80 series......I've seen some 70's with it and I think it looks awesome.

Remember in B.C. any tint on your front passenger or driver's side window is illegal and can result in a ticket and or notice and order. There are of course many vehicles with illegally tinted windows but that is the law in B.C. and at some point those vehicles WILL get pulled over and something will happen. That is probably not what you want when driving an RHD vehicle.

thanx for the heads up Martin

I wasn't going to touch the front, and the side windows at all.....the tint will be for the back ambulance doors and the sliding windows on the sides.......Its mostly a deterrant to keep the crackheads from breaking into my truck....I've been hesitant to get my stereo installed because i work in a shady part of Vancouver....prior to my cruiser purchase my honda got broken into 5 times last summer......there was never anything worth taking but it was annoying as hell......they took my mail key for my home in Abbotsford.......those keys are expensive to replace.

Illegal yes, chances of getting checked or a cop caring might be different. My FJ80 is the first one I had with mild tinting on the side front windows. It's kinda nice and I would do it again. But it is light enough not to be too suspicious. The back ones thou are a nother story... :)

I hate the tint on my windows. The back ones are so bloody dark on mine that it makes it impossible to see out of them at night. The only up side is it also makes it near impossible for thieves to see what is in the back day or night. I would be careful to get assurances that the tint will block light and eyes from coming in and allow you to see out night or day.

hmmm.....those are some good points...not being able to see through the rearview mirror would be pretty annoying........I want that 80 series mirror look but I don't want to sacrifice my ability to see at night.......not a huge fan of blacking out the windows completely.... I saw a black BJ-74 on Byrn road a couple of days back parked in front of the Canadian Tire, it had an almost purpley tinge on the tint....i didn't like that............I think the mirror contrast with the white body paint would be nice.........hopefully these tint places can help me find a happy medium. .

Now if I could do somethign about those Magnum P.I. side graphics my cruiser's cosmetic surgury would be complete.............brown, tan, and orange....yeesh :S

No way - leave 'em. You can call your truck the "Island Hopper" and we'll just call you TC!

In my experience the crackheads will break in to your vehicle even if they can't see anything to steal (or there is nothing to steal at all). My old 4runner was broken in to many times. I always left nothing visible and nothing in the truck. One time they stole my ice scraper and less than 50 cents in pennies. Another time they stole my stereo even though the faceplate was not in the vehicle. Yet another time they stole a t-shirt that was under the seat. In the end every lock in my 4runner had been replaced twice. I would suggest an alarm or a less shady parking space for security purposes.

I have limo tint (%100 blackout). It isn't that bad to see out at night but is great that nobody can see in. For me this important for a number of reasons

1. sleeping in the vehicle
2. changing in a public place (beach).
3. keeps the dog cool if I have to leave him in the truck (not condoning this but for 5 mins it helps)
4. keeps the looky loos from staring as they drive up behind you
5. I carry a lot of tools and they are not obvious

For me the pros far outweigh the cons for solid tint.
My 2 cents

I like the solid tint in my trucks, same reasons as above, lack of visibility into the vehicle. As far as seeing out, yeah, it hinders visibility some but I attribute most of the problem to poor backup lights.

I also have the drivers and passengers front windows tinted. I bought the truck this way and I know that it is illegal. Oh well. I suspect that the only time one would encounter a problem is with a power tripping cop or like.

Just old tint. The tint on my BJ60 is going purple too so I'll be having it redone in the next few months.

what i'm looking for is that Lexus tint....or the type that some Nissan Pathfinder's have....its a mirror look....not sure if thats possible or not....but that is what i'm hoping to get on Lexy. I'll post some pictures up once its done....probably in the next few weeks after I get ATEB to fix my wipers.

This weekend I'm going to try to remove the front bush bar with the fog lights......I think it takes away rather than adds to the rig......if i'm right i'll be posting it up for sale on the JDM section of mud.

Ordered some Easy Fist brackets yesterday......the plan is to mount a shovel on the front bumper....I came close to buying a HZJ-73 last year with a similar setup.............i can't friggin wait.

Purple tint=cheap tint. It doesn't last well. It's worth it to spend the bucks on good stuff considering what a PIA it is to remove.

Agreed!! Here in Guatemala it will cost me about $40 to retint the truck. That includes 3M tint as well as labour!! When I first tinted the truck in 2001 it was primarily for my first trip to Mexico and I was not sure if I'd like it or not. Now I know I like it and I have no problem redoing it.
