Definitely need to figure something out for this. Went camping a couple of weekends ago and ended up sleeping in the back. Left the back windows cracked and woke up with a grampus/dobson fly (about 3 inches long with 1/4 inch long pinchers) crawling up the side of my head. Still having nightmares over that one...may have to get therapy :).

Not trying to hijack the thread, but how are you guys actually sleeping in the back of the FZJ80? With the middle seats folded forward and the 3 row removed, I cant even fit corner to corner across the back? (I'm about 6'2") Do any of you run the reclining middle row seats and thats how you sleep back there? I was able to sleep in my FJ60, I think there is more room in it?

I think screens for the back would be a great idea! I like the idea of fitting some plexi or aluminum in the window tracks, bet that would work out nicely!

The best sleeping arrangement is to remove both the second and third rows.

I remove 2nd and have the 3rds folded to the side. That way if I end up needing another 3 seats unexpectedly they are available but not in the way for sleeping.

Hmmmm, I guess I have not even thought about taking out the 2nd row, how easy is it? The only time I would need the sleeping room is when the G-Friend and I go camping, so easy enough to take out for a weekend here and there? Otherwise I would need the seating during the week.

Doug...Good idea about the third row. Then they really get to feel like they are being DRIVEN around in style.

I am not too sure if things changed, but my 1994 was just three bolts. I think 14 mm. Two in the front, one in the back, IIRC. You just have to pop off the little plastic cover.

The wife and I sleep good in the back now with the seats out. I also move the fronts forward a bit at night, that should give you enough room.

Now, back to the screens.

I went out and fooled around with a piece of plexiglas and found I could easily trim a piece to fit tightly into the rear track on the outside of the rear window. Wouldn't blow out under way, and all that would remain is to cut out what you want for an opening and glue screen across it. Bonus is it's subtle and practically invisible even if you don't achieve the finest craftmanship.

For Photo's "Bear Country", I'd use some of the 3/16" Lexan I have around from another project. The guys took a piece of it out back to see if it was really bulletproof and put dents in it with a .38. Unfortunately, bears don't worry about measly firearms and could easily pop it out with a single claw. Or, open the roof like a can opener if you're in the right area......

2nd row = 20 mins -- helpful advice that was given me by a fellow forum-member is to put the bolts back in when you take the seats out -- lest you lose them or jam them up with fritos -

I have a new solution to sleeping that doesn't require pulling the middle seats. I fold the middle seat back down but don't flip it. It is slightly inclinded. And I have found that my 94 cloth seats are better than the 91 cloth seats for this. Leather could be a whole different ball game. I have a flat box/drawer system with flaps that fold over onto the third seat bars on the wheelwell. Plop to 4" foam mats on the seats and box and i have an almost full length sleeping platform with the tailgate closed. It does have a slight incline so you need to sleep with your head towards the front of the vehicle. The platform also widens the sleeping surface because it takes on the wheel wells. If it was just the two of us this would be enough room. Plop the cooler in the front seat. Other gear stowed underneath the platform or behind front seats on the floor. Now that we travel with 3 large dogs and a toddler we are looking for a trailer. Too much JUNK!
