Anybody know if Toyota ever made metal window cranks with the same splineage as the plastic ones that constantly crack or strip out? All the HELP! brand cranks at the stores I see that fit toyotas are plastic/worthless. Did older Landcruisers have metal (with the same splines)? Did any old toyota cars? Did any other companies use the same splines?

Yep, some old sedans had some. early to Mid 70's corolas, then they started moving to the all plastic. But even the Mid 70's cruisers (fj40's) and sedans had typically a metal pin/pivot which held up better than the all plastic unit on the aftermarket junk. Think I have one or two...if so, I will shoot a shot.

Your 76 should have metal cranks yes? I didn't think plastic showed up on 55's til like 78?

Here are some of the types (some!) made. all seem to have a standard spline but keep in mind they are all mid 70's.

Btw- If they are stripping out a lot it implies that you should remove, clean and relube your regulator. Proberly cleaned and lubbed they move pretty blinken smooth.

Yeah, I was going to mention that a clean and lube was coming up. It should help alot, but I'd still like metal for the durability. I'm pretty rough on stuff.

My cranks originally looked like the one on the far left I think.

So is the best thing to do just call CDan for some metal cranks?

I think 76 was the plastic crap, i've swapped mine over to metal ones from a 71
Howdy! My 76 does have the plastic ones. I don't have much of a problem with the handles, yet, but the DS gearbox behind it is getting pretty wobbly. Do they match anything else?? JOhn

Yep, '76 = plastic. The ones on ours match the ones on the left side of the picture above.

I can get you metalic ones like for 6 us dollars a piece (new), but better check the window system and the window strip is correctly installed.
on my old HJ60 I just to have issues with the window machines and after I fix it, no problems with the plastic ones

cheers :cheers::cheers:
