Hi there can anybody give an electrically challenged guy instructions on how to installl the famous "wilson switch" on a 1990 LJ78? It has the 2l-te engine and has a real problem starting cold. I checked the voltage to the bus bar and it reads 12 volts fo about a millisecond and then drops to zero so I think my timer is sc**ed!

Simply unplug the temperature sensor for the timer at the thermostat and it's bypassed. The ignition key is your 'wilson switch'
If bypassing the timer doesn't energize the glow circuit then it's likely the relay at fault.

track down the relay that goes to the plugs from the battery. You need to get past the timer, so basically if I remember correctly, and this was on an '82 bj42 so its probably diferent, I went batteries--> relay/my switch--> then plugs The switch powered the relay. Make sure you get a switch thats voltage sensitive for dc (in my case it was 24v).

Most likely either the timers pooched, or the resistor is not resisting enough.

too easy:
wire from battery to wilson switch
wire from wilson to glow
done.

or

wire from battery to wilson switch
wire from wilson to relay
relay to glow bus bar
done.

hold for 5-10 seconds
start
if it doesn't start right away then glow again.
if it does start but runs rough then hold the glow while it is running till running smooth.

no warranty with this info.

ahh where do you get a wilson switch and does anyone have any pictures of what to where? Catch my drift I know nothing, help!

thanks my man , glad to know im not the only one that knows nothing, and thanks for asking the questions that i feel stupid asking.

Which would be better and where would you splice into, keep in mind I have little idea as to where most of these parts are but with some instruction, it'd be no sweat.

I'm selling a bunch of these beautiful switches, that feature a dust boot to keep debris out of the switch and an engine start tag with lock washer.

These are a few pictures of the button itself
15 CDN is what I'm selling them for, plus shipping, PM me, I may do deals if you want quantity...

The switch has some brass connectors that use a special plug that I don't supply, I just soldered them on and shrink wraped, it is a nice strong connection.

thanks for your interest
Eric
