FJ40.webp

I was under my 1980 FJ40 and saw this stuck into one of the frame holes. It appears to be a temperature probe, but I have no idea. It has a two bolt bracket on it and a braided wire going up into the body behind the drivers seat. Any commentary is greatly appreciated!

I don't think this ever had an auxiliary tank, but it has been de-smogged. Maybe it was a cat sensor of some type?

That rusty metal rod is solid as well.

Excellent question. The line/wire just goes into the tub. I don't see anything passing into the inside.

It "should" appear right at the front edge of the seat.

I can't actually see the wire, it is in braided sheath that I assume is for heat protection. I will to it on the wiring diagram.

Heat protection sounds like exhaust stuff such as an O2 sensor at the rear of a catalytic preverter

That makes sense. This truck has headers and was de-smogged way before I got it. All the emissions equipment is long gone with the exception of the charcoal canister in the firewall. I will remove the seat, pull up the mats, and remove it. If anyone needs a charcoal canister, let me know!

Thanks.
