I know our Pigs do not seem to have much value, monetary wise, but a friend of mine were talking and I mentioned I wanted to paint the Pig. Since he is all about keeping his old Mustangs original and tip top(he has some very rare and EXPENSIVE restored cars) he basically told me to not to put a paint brush on it and that by doing so will ruin any value it may have. I mentioned to him that these things rust from the inside out and that I have a few areas that need attention paid to.
He is encouraging me to tell the rut and to use some type of clear cot to keep it from spreading and leave as is.
So, What is the right answer here with the Pigs?

Another thought, depends on what color you will paint.
Painting it to the factory colors it came with will probably be better than going w/ a non-factory color (:cough: Chrysler High-Impact Panther Pink :cough:).
I don't know about laying clear over factory paint. If you end up with incompatible chemistry, that could be a real mess...

There is a trend in increasing prices for "survivor" vehicles, but unless you have a pristine example, keeping the vehicle from deteriorating through a repaint outweighs the value in keeping it totally original. I agree with Pablo about keeping factory colors will help retain the value of the vehicle. You already put a lift kit on it (which is awesome...btw) so originality is already compromised. Life is short, paint it if you to and then enjoy scratching it up on the trails! :steer:.

To an extent your friend is right; 1927 Model A, clear coat it and keep the original patina/rust/primered spots from the original owner.

Your pig? What is your long-term goal? You gonna love it and hug it and call it George and drive it for years to come? Then paint it and arrest the rust as much as possible!!

Hoping the 55s follow the 40s up in value...

Then everyone will complain about how expensive they are....

Year of the Pig is coming, I've no doubt, but in the best of times, I wouldn't come away with a glass half empty and, although the symptoms have waned, still fully infected.

I've no doubt the full effects will return once a pigwheel is in my fat fingered hands, again.

I would think a GOOD paint job would help the appreciation.

In my mind, less rust or good rust treatment = more value.
Repaint in oem sheme = more value
Good mechanic = more value.
Close to Oem or matching with the period of the car = more value
Exception scrapdaddy's piggie.
I am a basic man with basic thinks.

When I get it back, I'll snap some pics. Its in the other part of the state having the original A/C installed and some other minors things being done.
