Just know that any towel you use for the first application will be ruined. It will no longer absorb any water when it is dry, even if you wash it. So don't use your best fluffy drying MF towel (like I did)

I also recently quit using clay bars, now I use a claying towel. MUCH easier and faster, results seem the same.

Can you post a link to this “clay towel”?
My least favorite activity with my Cruiser is clay bar stuff!

I use Meguiars products, I like the Ultimate compaound, Ulimate polish carnauba wax, and mirror glaze sealant. it pretty quick with Lake County pads and MF towels to clean up. I only do a real cleaning maybe one a year and won't do a real corrections until I plan on getting something new.

but I would also be interested in the "clay towel"

This is the one I bought, but there's lots to pick from on Amazon.

Detailer's Preference Microfiber Clay Towel Fine Grade 12in. X 12 in. Blue Amazon product ASIN B01AB5OSEC
I just squirt a bunch of soapy water on the panel, gently wipe this over, then rinse well.

when i bought my LX

i did clay, HD Speed AIO with dual action polisher, and topped it off with meguiars ceramic spray wax

that's under 100 including harbor freight DA

that's good enough for me, as an off road vehicle... not a mall queen anymore.

So many change , since I wax my car lately .
Around 2010 I waxed my Jeep srt , black of course 😁
And I hated this job ...
This is way I was happy no one mentioned waxing in MUD
Now you guys changed my mind
What is the best “do nothing “ spray wax ❓

Thrilled you mentioned it as I'm going to clay bar mine this weekend and try the Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic. Hoping it was as good as one would read on the internet.............

I used Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic before on an another car and liked it, but after seeing this video, I made the switch to Turtle Wax ICE Seal N Shine for my LC. In that video, he uses iron remover, degreaser, acidic wheel cleaner, and nothing seems to make the Seal N Shine budge - while the Meguiar's and Mother's failed early on in the tests.

Has anyone used nu finish?

I have. It's a good product and fairly inexpensive. Apply when the vehicle is slightly wet, smear all over, and buff it out. Gives vehicles a nice look.

I used to wax my cars when I had sedans and had my Porsche 911, and I would actually hand wash the cars. That's when I had more time and cared a little more about car shine.

Now that I have the LX and don't have the 911 anymore, I just don't have the time or energy. Too much going on with kids, business, house improvements, and travel. I drive it through the complimentary Lexus car wash once in a while; every so often I may try to buff out a small scratch but the Lexus automated wash is good enough.

I'm not far off from you @Docboy. I simply don't have the time anymore. And I run my LX through my local Costco brushed  carwash. She's never sparkling but at least she's clean more often than not.

I still have a 911. I only hand wash her every 2-3 months. I'm embarrassed to say I haven't waxed her in almost a year. I was hoping to see what the latest good wax is. Still have the trusty Meguiars NXT and DA polisher on the shelf.

You live close to one of the few Costco car wash in the country.

Where in the world does one get a Costco car wash? Is it a free benefit to Costco members?

$7.99 for a Costco quality car wash. Which is to say it's better and more effective than your typical gas station car wash. I've run it through twice back to back after some serious road trips that leave the front end splattered with bug guts, and of course with their excellent customer service, they are always happy to oblige. Underbody wash and tire shine included. Then I take a few Costco bought microfiber towels and wipe down the jambs and a few detail areas right there in the parking lot.

Fill up 36 gallons of Costco premium gas at the other corner of the parking lot.

Grab a hot dog. Then a rotisserie chicken or tomahawk steak if I'm feeling sporty for dinner. Along with a couple impulse buys they've trained me to always pull the trigger on, because it won't be there the next time. I can always return right? (if I'm not too lazy to)

Life without Costco... not sure how that would be possible.

Machine car washes... <shudder> That makes my brain hurt.

I love that Pan the Organizer guy. I'm gonna have to try that Turtle Wax stuff, when I use up all the Meguires bottle.

Coating and sealants have improved a lot over the years. I prefer a ceramic coating any day over spray sealants or waxes. The key to a good detail is properly preparing the paint. That's the part that sucks and most labor intensive. Once done, applying the coating is the easy part. A good ceramic coating will last a few years. Repels water and grime which makes washes much easier and quicker.

A good source of info on detailing can be found here:

Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light is a good one.
